No, he's closer to the right size than you may first realize. The E Class Coupe was based on the old C Class (W204) platform, not the E Sedan W212 platform, so the F22 is not far off. I moved from a C Class Sedan to the 228i and it's fairly close. The 4 Series felt too big and boggy!
