What kind of scratches are you getting? The family cat lounges on my roof from time to time and aside from wipeable paw prints I've never had any scratches.
I know apparently it is perceived to be a little pretentious nowadays, but back in the 80's I had a Civic that was pretty important to me, parked in an apartment complex and I put a car cover on it. Aside from having to manage it during thunderstorms it was very effective at keeping the car free of spots and paw prints.
