I do that all the time, except he just picks it up and spins with it. I can put the puck behind me and pick it up between my legs, pull the stick through spin around and shoot. Hard to do in a game unless your on a brake away with a good amount of distance between the guy chasing you. Also a trick I learned was picking it up on your backhand from behind the next and swinging the puck in under the crossbar...
