I'm avoiding myself. I like to be surprised. I think the joke is a homage to those early films you mentioned. Did you notice how many nods and acknowledgements to the lore and history of Bond and inside-jokes there were in Skyfall? I think, especially with the inclusion of Blofeld and SPECTRE that this movie will follow suit.
