-Firstly many of the members of this forum are US based where the 320d isn't sold (to the best of my knowledge)-
I had a 320d E90 in the UK and it was pretty rapid (and had ridiculous milage) I had a 320i as a courtesy car and I would have said that while the in gear acceleration for the 320d was better, the gearing ratio of the 320i (being suited to a petrol torque curve) was overall faster in my subjective opinion.
I would push it hard and then take it to BMW to check for codes. A dyno run would be good also.
