Looking at brake part numbers, 335d and 335i has the same brakes, so as long as the 328xi wheels wasn't 16", I find it weird that those didn't fit.

Trust me, I found it weird too.
They were definitely 17", because I took the winter tires off and put them on my 335d OEM 17s.
