There are quite a few differences, but they are subtle. The biggest difference asside from the motor is obd1 vs obd2. Given the choice I prefer obd1 because it is simpler, especially regarding emissions.

AA used to only sell turbo kits, so most likely the posting is correct and it is in fact a turbo kit on the car you are looking at. There were several iterations of the kit, but I would stay away unless the bottom end was rebuilt with lower compression pistons and stronger rods.

European Car magazine had a long build series on the e36 M3 that included AAs turbo kits a few years ago. It is probably still on their web site under project cars. I'd read through that to see what was involved in making the car reliable.
