Well, I followed all the "rules" in that one.
  • It was during the "golden hours" not long after dawn.
  • I got down low, literally sitting on the ground.
  • The grass provided foreground interest (f/16 to get everything in focus)
  • The sky wasn't interesting, so I minimized it.
  • Roughly followed the rule of thirds.

It was an opportunistic shot, meaning that I didn't go out there planning it. I WAS out shooting wildlife. I drove by and noticed the light and colors, stopped and got out and shot it. I think of it more as "chasing light" and having my equipment with me. Two hours later would have been "ordinary" but the prior morning I drove by that exact spot and it didn't move me. There are times that the light is just magic and I try to be very aware at those times. If I'm in my office and notice the light is magic, I grab my camera and go out.
