you don't need anything for auto-x. just go and drive.
but personally, I find road courses a much better time and $ investment when it comes to fining your driving skills and learning your cars limit. tried out a few auto-x session at my local bmwcca chapter. all i remembered was waiting all day for 5-7 mins of seat time while man handling our +3600lb cars on some courses that is more suited for mini's and e30...
