Free Will - We Don't Have It
Figured that title will get me some flame but also attract attention
![]() Anyhow, this is not a joke and I was posting to see if there is anyone out there that happens to agree. Sam Harris recently wrote a book on it and I happen to concur with his analysis although I came to this conclusion years ago. It is pertinent to this discussion to differentiate between predestination and free will, as they are not the same. I absolutely do not believe in predestination (I'm an Atheist or a 6 on the Dawkins Scale so that would be a contradiction of sorts.) but I think that following logic we can conclude that the concept of free will is merely an illusion. Science is playing an increasing role in this matter as well. If you are not familiar with the different philosophical schools of thought on this subject (Libertarianism, Determinism, Compatibalism) then I actually suggest the Wiki page on free will, it breaks it down pretty well. I would attempt to explain my stance here, but my current writeup is about ten pages. Instead I will link you to Mr. Harris' talk on the matter and then see what everyone thinks. ![]() |

Hey, it's the off topic forum and I was bored. Lots of pointless stuff posted here; just figured I'd add one and see if it intrigued others the same way it did me.
