For comparison sake Volkswagen group donated 500,000. People need to stop whining about BMW only donating "1 million". They probably have so many other local contributions that aren't publicized. Plus let's say 1 million is only 1% of their income... Avg BMW owner probably makes annual household income of 100k? How many people complaining donated $1000? Or 1% of your income? SMH!

DW is an individual who can do what he pleases with his income. BMW is a corporation with shareholders. If BMW has gobs of cash lying around that it can't invest above it's cost of capital, then it should return that cash to its shareholders who can then make the personal decision as to to spend (or donate) it. IMHO, BMW should be helpful, eg. offer employee donation matching, loan modification through BMWFS for affected clients, etc. But BMW shouldn't be in the business of taking shareholder money and giving it away - no matter how worthy the cause. If shareholders wanted BMW to donate their money to charity, they should just sell the stock and donate themselves. In the meantime, I suggest you laud both BMW and DW (or really anyone) for being charitable... Not criticizing the size of the donation.

This. It's all part of a plan BMW has worked out. They do this and people think wow look at that high end car company that donates to help our country. On top of that people who had a BMW but got it destroyed will have their faith in the company reassured with this act. At the end of the day whatever they give helps regardless of their intentions

Thumbs up to BMW! A donation is a donation. The people who are complaining about it not being enough, have YOU donated?
Just be positive better like you learned in school and appreciate the fact that they give something to help. Every bit helps, whether its $100 or 1 million. ![]() |

It's truly a disappointment to see so many members here unhappy with a million dollar donation. While damage is in the billions, it's incredible that BMW and MB donated a million each to the RED CROSS.
another thing to take into consideration, a million wont bring a building back that was ruined, but that child, mother, and father that now have clean water and food which that "only one million" donation funded, will appreciate EACH AND EVERY PENNY. Before we point the finger saying "they could have done more" ask yourself, "did I do anything to help those affected by Sandy?" |

I think it's pathetic and frankly disgusting that so many members thing $1 MM "isn't enough". Are you kidding me?? You guys all sound so ungrateful. I live in NJ and see first hand the damage the hurricane caused, and I can truly say $1MM will go an incredibly long way. BMW didn't have to give anything, and the fact they did is truly generous (regardless whether it lowers their taxable income and gives them positive publicity). All the people in the forum bashing BMW's donation, I'd like to know how many of you donated?
As a NJ resident I'd like to say THANK YOU BMW!! The money will certainly go a long way, and help us get back to normal. |

If you look at the overall damage that Sandy did, yes, $1 million is nothing but it's what the $1 million is going to do for the people - that's what's important and that sum is going to do a lot for a many people so I don't know why people are saying "only 1 million?". |
