Interesting story for you all that happened shortly after Obama’s re-election,

I recently asked my friends little girl what she wanted to be when she grew up, a five year old mind you. She said, “I want to be the President.” Her parents, who are liberal in there political beliefs, were in the same room with us. So I asked her, “If you were President, what would be the first thing you would do?” She replied, “I would give food and houses to all the homeless people.” Her parents beamed.

“Wow, what a worthy goal,” I told her. “But you don’t have to wait until you’re president to do that. You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my driveway, and I’ll pay you $50. Then I’ll take you to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out and you can give him the $50 to use towards food and a new house.”

She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, “Why doesn’t the homeless guy come over and do the work and you can just pay him $50?” I said, “Welcome to the Republican party.”

Her parents still aren’t speaking to me.

That is what is really wrong with this section. The majority of people who regularly post here (on both sides) usually only resort to name calling and childish rants, none of which they would do if we were all seated in a room together I'm sure. I think the mods might be on to something, simply shutting things in this subforum down until it gets to the point where no one posts in here anymore, then they delete the subforum entirely. It's been proven time and time again that only a few posters, who don't post often, are capable of intelligent and civil discussion.

First I'd like to point out that the response in my post contained no personal references at all to the OP or anyone else, so I don't accept the assersion that I belittled or attacked anyone. I didn't. It's not my style.

The point I was making was very simple and by your comments you seem to agree. I don't see value in persuing a serious discussion about the existence of Santa Clause. If you believe Santa Clause exists, fine. Everyone is free to believe what they choose. I don't believe Santa Clause exists. I also don't believe in this country we have anything even close to what the OP describes as Socialist Communism. So for me giving serious thought to the subject matter is equivalent to giving serious thought to debating the existence of Santa Clause.

The part you didn't mention to your friend's little girl is that the homeless guy would love the work but it's cheaper and more fun to pay the undocumented immigrant $15 to do the same work then go and say disparaging things about both the homeless guy and the undocumented immigrant behind their backs. Romney was in favor of the kind of controls that would make it increasingly hard to find an undocumented immigrant in the first place. Every resident seeking work would be here legitimately, so they would have less incentive to accept such low wage while fearing deportation. Free markets react to supply and demand. If the supply of those types of workers goes away, nobody is left who would be happy to work for $15, so if the person wants the lawn mowed, he will have to pay more. The going rate for that service increases. And if they are here legally, they are more likely to file a return and pay taxes on that law mowing fee.

Of course, since the fastest growing demographic voting group in the country all probably has immediate friends/relatives who would be affected by the proposed immigration stance, they didnt vote for the person who would have fixed that problem at it's source.

Welcome to America ! Dont feel like following the proper legal steps like everyone else? No problem, break the law, get here illegally, and we'll construct some "path to citizenship" for you. That way, since you are already here, we can jump you to the front of the queue. That will send a really good message to all the suckers from Europe, Asia, etc. who are dutifully following the process and waiting in line to immigrate properly. After all, if they are that interested in following the rules, how could they possibly contribute more to society ? No need to fast track them in.

I seem to recall farmers there having a real tough time finding people to do the work the illegal immigrants had been doing up to that point, for the prices they had been paying. What you are expressing sounds great on paper, but the reality is far different.

I used to date a girl from Canada who was an illegal alien, she even had a famous brother who was helping her with legal fees, but she was working here as an illegal. Interesting scenario. The market will correct itself, it always does, it just takes time.

What will happen is short term pain. The crops for that year will spoil. But, people are not gonna stop eating.
So, the demand is still there, but we have less food in the system. Less crops = price creep for the crops that do exist. As the prices rise, eventually they will fetch a price where the farmer can now afford to pay "American" wages for help, and then they begin to seed the fields for the next harvest. If too many workers jump in the pool, it forces wages down again, thus making it unviable, and the fluctuation happens until some equilibrium is created.

Of course, the only way to make that work is if the immigration laws are universal, otherwise the illegals will just leave Georgia, go next door to another state and work for peanuts there, and the problem persists, at a different address.

If it's a different product, unlike food, that has a higher elasticity of demand, that market vertical may disappear altogether, to be replaced by something else. That's OK. The old video store down the street is gone, nobody rents movies any more. Now that spot has a mobile phone store, a product that didnt exist when VHS tapes were big business.

Doesn't matter where they are from; if they are not legal, and you ignore it or give them some preferential path to citizenship, it's basically spitting in the eye of folks who are willing to jump thru the hoops to do it properly, and who are waiting for years sometimes. Those diligent folks are probably also less likely to cheat on taxes, etc, so it's better if they are here instead of any illegal, regardless of origin.

Can you imagine if I stole a car instead of buying one, then the gov says, you know, instead of throwing your ass in jail, we'll help you with a "path to ownership", where you slowly pay off the value of that car you stole over time. What message does that send to those who are busting their ass at work to make their car payments?

Hahaha very cute story, but as liberals go, the logic isnt sound. Why doesnt the homeless man do the work for $15 then?He can use the wellfare $ in conjunction with what he is earning to buy food. Instead, he just sits there and soaks up the wellfare/foodstamps/etc, and doesnt work, thus increasing unemployment. Take away the free money and food, and i bet you my life savings his lazy ass will mow your lawn TWICE for $15. The math i learned in 3rd grade told me $15 + Obamadollars (which is actually my money) > 0 + Obamadollars. If your life sucks, its your fault. As others have said, I think my point is pretty valid, and unfortunately you still don't get it. It doesn't surprise me though, since in pretty much every post you make in this subforum you are attacking someone.

Wrong! The lazy guy doesn't want to work because he didn't otherwise take the initiative and make the personal sacrifice necessary to get educated in a skill or ability that others are willing to pay for. As a result, he won't work because the compensation for the only kind of work he is qualified to do doesn't pay enough to allow him to live the lifestyle he wants.

Instead, he gives up and mooches off the government via entitlements that the hard working successful folks pay for through ever rising taxes. He's the same cat that stands on the street corner with a sign begging for money too.

The result? Half the country no longer has an incentive to get an education, learn a skill or ability to make a decent living.

The consequence? A 16.3 trillion dollar national debt, 1.2 trillion dollar budget deficit and a national Gross Debt to GDP ratio of 105.5%!!!

Exacerbating the situation we have an incompetant for President who has convinced 51% (% by which Obama won the popular vote) of the nation that the answer to stimulating the economy, reducing unemployment, and paying down the debt is to increase taxes on the top 1%, increase government spending and all the while covering it by borrowing more from China! At some point the gravy train is going to implode, as it's unsustainable.

I would enjoy hearing any liberal explain how taking more taxes from the successful, increasing government spending (beyond our current 1.2 trillion dollar budget deficit spending currently,) and borrowing more money that will increase our national debt obligation (above the current 16.3 trillion dollar we already owe) is going to stimulate the economy, create jobs and pay off our our nationl debt!

Take away the all the BS entitlements and I bet you'll see the needed incentive to get off your ass and make it rain.
