Hurricane Sandy Relief Bill
Does this make your blood boil????
The REAL TRUTH about the Hurricane Sandy relief bill.* Maybe now you can understand why John Beohner and the GOP were a little*reluctant.* (If in doubt, go research it yourself.) The thieves at their best; grab the money and run. * Just some of the pork in the Sandy bill: * $4 million for the Kennedy Space Center . * $8 million to buy cars and equipment for the Homeland Security and Justice departments. $20 million for a nationwide "Water Resources Priorities Study". * $41 million for eight military bases including Guantanamo Bay . * $56.8 million for charting the debris from last year's Japanese tsunami. ** $58.8 million for forest restoration on private land. * $100 million for the federal Head Start day care program. $150 million in funding for Alaskan fisheries.* $188 million for new Amtrak lines (not repair, whole new lines). $197 million “to… protect coastal ecosystems and habitat impacted by Hurricane Sandy.” * $5.3 billion to the Army Corps of Engineers (that's more than their annual budget). $10.78 billion for public transportation, most of which is allocated to future construction and improvements, not disaster relief. * $13 billion would go to “mitigation” projects to prepare for future storms. $17 billion for wasteful Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), a program that has become notorious for its use as a backdoor earmark program. How does any of this have anything to do with immediate emergency relief for the victims of Hurricane Sandy? Harry Reid passed this through the Democratically controlled Senate then sent them all home, so that the House couldn’t send it back for ratification (after removing the pork).* All they could do was vote it down.* This way Harry Reid makes the Republican’s look like the bad guys.* Reid doesn’t care about the victims of Sandy , it’s all just about politics (beating the Republicans) for him.* Over 40 House job creation bills sit on his desk right now, but will never see a vote.* And people wonder why Boehner told him to go F --- himself. ![]() |

You are actually against providing relief to the victims of Hurricane Sandy? Unreal. So now in this forum we have 1 member saying "Mass Shootings are on the downward trend, we don't need to do anything about guns", and now another saying this. You guys or gals disgust me. So glad you are the minority.

As serious as a heart attack.
I'll be happy to be the one lone voice here in the poli section that thinks it's a GOOD IDEA to provide relief for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

It's obvious that reading comprehension is a daunting task for some people. I didn't see one sentence in the OP that says the victims of Sandy shouldn't get relief.

The bill sucks and not just because of the pork. It is not the federal governments job to provide relief to a state that was hit by a hurricane. That would be the job of the state itself. Of course that concept went bye bye many decades ago. Almost everybody see's these catastrophes across our nation and think "yeah something has to be done." Well that something is supposed to be done by citizens and the state. True story here fellas. The constitution is pretty neat its just not followed anymore

The system is broken. It's been like this for a long time, but no reason to accept the massive overspending by govt. if I spent more than I earn, I'll go bankrupt. Why does this concept fail to be comprehended by the lefties (admittedly, sometimes the righties forget, too). We need to cut x10 before we think about raising taxes.

Going back to reelop's post, even the states are hooked on Fed monies. It sucks for people to lose their homes and have to live w/o basic infrastructure for long periods of time, but <insert OldArmy's post here>. One would think that insurance companies would deem certain places insurable after a while.
