Let the VOTES begin for Contest #14. The theme was Light and Darkness

All the usual voting rules will apply
- Multi votes allowed
- Votes will be public
- Any strange voting patterns (aka brand new users voting as their 1st post) will be investigate and possibly disqualified

Voting will end on 10th September 12:00am GMT.

In the event of a tie, there will be a 24 hr lightning round with only 1 vote allowed by each member.

specifically, the lightning snapshot not only has some favor here, but surpassing photographs like 'bristol,' 'morning light' and the steps?

hey people don't always vote for the best photos (not saying any of those mentioned are or aren't the best but...). Even though the category is Light and Dark, most people who come along and vote don't take that into account and vote purely on what catches their eye the most... lots of time also on the subject (a pic of a modded E92 M3 might get more votes than a pic of an apple even if the apple pix is the best example of lighting you've ever seen). I've often considered lobbying to make the polls closed to just those that submit photos into the contest but then it wouldn't really work cuz you can't filter out who votes and who doesn't in a poll. I guess we could do it by setting up the thread and having the people just PM their top 3 and give out points for each placing (kinda like a Heisman vote). The only thing is that these contests SHOULD be inclusive so all members of the site are able to participate, so thats something to keep in mind.

i gotta be honest. i hate it when cars (specifically bimmers) are the subjects. skews the contest, but that's just my opinion.

i doubt the majority of those who vote in the polls are professional photographers--i know i sure as shit am not. with that said, i think most votes go to the appealing image overall, rather than what is the most technically 'correct' or best composed. for example, i would judge a cooking contest based off what tastes the best, not necessarily which is the best executed meal from a technical standpoint.
