Clutch and flywheel question

Hello

Just had a new clutch and flywheel fitted - typical me didn't think about the break in procedure and was never told by BMW about this either. Now I think I should be ok as in I have not launched the car or redlined and changed gear since getting it done. Although I would say that I may have changed gear above 5k revs at a few points (nothing really excessive as far as I can remember) Is this something to worry about and have I potentially affected my clutch and flywheel? I have not experienced any shattering or anything.

You should be fine....I think as long as you avoid overheating the clutch (excessive clutch slip) in the first 100 miles or two you won't have a problem.

Ok its just I have been reading all this stuff about dont go over this rpm for 500 miles etc, kinda worries you.

I know in the manual it states to engage the clutch gently for 300 miles when you intitally break in the car, so not sure about that?

The thing is I have not been doing that - well not gently.. and have probaly already covered that

You will be fine...you are only trying to bed in the clutch friction material against the flywheel surface, a bit like when you have new brake pads - you don't go bananas for a 100 miles or so then you are good to go.

Believe it or not, you actually WANT to slip the clutch a little more on the first few hundred miles so it deposits some of the friction material on flywheel surface. Again, it's similar to bedding in brakes.

Isn't it to late for it to matter now? Drive it and enjoy it, don't let things you can no longer change effect your mood.

Agree with the above. It will be fine.

Most race teams barely break in a clutch before beating the crap out of it.

Just drive it.
