My brother is a Porsche tech. Amazing car. Enjoy the maintenance costs.

EDIT: When since do 997 Turbos cost less than 50grand used? That is news to me. Its super hard to find 997 GT3's for less than 70k.

Last year I was having hard time finding a pristine 07 Cayman S for under 45k with low miles. Those P-car sure holds value better than BMWs. I don't believe you can find a 997 turbo for 50.

I was wondering myself. It's hard to find a nice Cayman S for under 50k. I've read some real bogus things on here over the past several weeks. I sometimes can't tell if people are joking or reaching just to take a dig an the 1M.

Yes you can my friend. used around 10k-20k miles.. That's currently what I am considering, and there are some out there.. It is just hard to compare now since 1m not in the picture yet.

In fact I'd say they are better with heavier cars than lighter ones. The Z4M was one of the lightest M's in a while and it still got its butt handed to it on many levels. E30 aside its almost as if 33XX-35XX is the hotspot for this companies mass produced stuff. Now I fully expect the M5 to be a major asterisk in my theory.

Unfortunately, today, you buy a BMW sports car for looks. You buy a coupe/sedan to get your socks rocked.
Weight matters. Motortrends ( and most other similar mags ) only purpose in life is to help sell cars for auto manufs.

I never said it doesn't. Show me the increased weight versus weight savings of any said part and how it would measurably transfer to the 1M. MT and every other rag does not have positive things to say about every car BMW makes. Do them pointing out issues on their long-term test drives sell mags too?

Point out exactly how much weight BMW ditching the quads would save and how it would effect the handling. We dont know if this S55motor will weigh more than the N55motor or specifically what they're adding to the front. Adding quads could add needed weight to the rear to achieve whatever weight distribution they want. We really don't know. It's easy for us all to sit back and play arm-chair BMW engineer.

Losing weight for the sake of losing it is ridic. It depends where it was needed to be lost in the first place.

The statement was next year (when the 1M is released) there will be 997 Turbos in the $50k's used. We will revisit this topic in a year's time

It's hard to compare but when I was deciding the 1er, I looked at a Cayman S - 135i AUD90K, 3 year old Cayman S AUD70K.

And would you really, really want a 997 TT that they offer for 50k? That is not a steal, that is something you walk quickly away from. Sure supercar prices have fallen and you can get a good deal. But like this article in Car magazine stated, many owners sell the cars right when there is a big maintenance bill coming up. A car may have low to mid miles, but they might be hard ridden miles.

I know of place selling a pristine 964 Turbo--1991, for 24k, and that is from 1991. Most 997 Turbos go for well over 100k, so you are saying that one can find one that has depreciated well over 50%? Who'd want it? Especially since E46 M3s are still holding their value and used e9x M3s from 2008 are still high as a giraffe's ass.

Fair enough, but these seem to be such different cars I wouldn't think to cross-shop them.

To each his own I guess, right?

No need to. It's bunk. Knowing this information is part of what I do for a living.
That 997 Turbo will be salvaged or have water damage.

All magazines sole purpose is to sell a product, you can wash it all you want.

Did you say this? M3 and 135 are over weight. M6 is too, how does that one handle on the track? Any one who sais M3 is not over weight or that it doesn't feel like its over weight or what ever spin they put on it, is selling an M3!!!

Most new cars today are over weight. This is bad for performance and mpg.

I thought forums are for enthusiasts, not enthusiast posers

Magazines exist to sell their own product. Not necessarily one manufacturer.

Where did I state an M3 is a lightweight? I said BMW can do amazing things with weight. The M with Competition package is aiming to be the best handling M car ever. Ring Times, VIR, and other roadcourses do not lie. You are arguing with yourself. You say "FALSE" to my statement regarding it matters where wait is loss. Write me the scientific reasoning behind that. Center of gravity and Unsprung weight are not equal last time I checked.

I thought forums are for enthusiasts, not enthusiast posers
.

Unnecessary.

Dude whats your problem. Not every enthusiast is concerned about weight. As shown by the enthusiasts that drive verts.

Saving 30 lbs doesnt really matter. Its more about the driver. As evidenced by the fact that ive beaten a bunch of modded 135i coupes in my nearly stock 135i vert.

BTW the coupe ha a 400lb weight advantage over me.

The guy hates the M1/1M before it's even released and comes here to troll. Quite simple. I've noticed a weird trend of MY10/MY11 reflecting anger towards this upcoming car. Is it subconscious buyers remorse? I dunno.

I can understand people being ctnical or hostile about BMW only letting out snippits of information on this car. They're manipulating us, plain and simple, but that's what corporations try to do - control the flow of information. You can't take it personally or too seriously for that matter. In the end there has to be a product people want.

Not 997 Turbos, but I've seen pretty nice 996TT's in the $30k's. They're worth less than an 89 930.
