Low res to high res backup camera retrofit

I have an older version (low res) backup camera in my 09 X6 and I want to change it to the newer, high resolution version. Has anyone done this retrofit end-to-end? What is all that's required (other than obtaining high-res backup camera) hardware wise and then what coding is required? Will i have to replace a controlling module as well?

I would suggest you contact the guys at BimmerTech.. http://www.bimmer-tech.net/

They did some coding to my car recently and are excellent..

That is true. Patryk and MEN are great and very knowledgeable guys. I would definitely contact them for this; however, I am looking to do this myself to save some $$$. Just wanted to know if someone out there attempted to do this particular retrofit themselves. Thanks for the advice anyways

To go the DIY route I believe you are going to need to add a new video module to the factory harness to accept a new video source... I did this to my X5 and worked great.

You will need to add a NavTool or similar plus the new carmera...

For the camera I used a high quality Boyo.... Very happy with the results..

good luck.

Looks like an after-market control module. I prefer to stay with BMW oem (original). Can I swap out my current module with module that normally goes into vehicles equipped with high-res backup cameras? replace the camera itself and re-code?

I may be mistaken but I believe the issue is the incompatibility of your 2009 CCC with the 2010+ camera's.. Anything can be done if you through enough money at it but I believe you would need to swap out your CCC for the 2010 + CIC and that is an expensive endeavour...

Thanks for your feedback; however, I am still unsure whether I will need just a high-res backup camera to replace mine or also new control module for it
