The Angry Neighbor Loud Cold Start Video with Voice for Reference

I noticed just how loud these cars are upon cold start (with stock exhaust) once we got ours redelivered. Some friends wanted a reference video so I decided to take a video.

It begins with me counting in a normal inside voice. My wife cranks my M3 completely cold while I continue counting in the same normal conversational voice. I'm counting all the way until the end of the video. I am completely inaudible during cold start but as it warms up you can start to hear me.

Hopefully this is helpful to anyone who has yet to buy or get their order. These cold start as loud as most of my past cars did with aftermarket exhausts. Maybe even louder. Definitely louder than my turbo NSX. I wouldn't be surprised if we had some neighbors complaining

Did you remove the electronic valve control? If you didn't you should do it and try this video again. It is even louder.

Totally unmodified. I can't imagine it louder but I'm planning on doing the disconnect mod anyways

What I find interesting is that the car is only "loud" on a very cold start. If you park somewhere for 30 min and start the car it's very quiet... too quiet IMO.

I find the cold start to be not too loud at all... my C63 was louder as was my E92 with the Akra exhaust. Both of those cars would wake my wife in the morning but the F82 has never done that... she thinks it is reasonably quiet on cold start in relation

Ha, same here. We park in a parking garage that has various modded up cars. My E93 w/ the ACM exhaust mod will set off warning chirps when I back out if I'm still in cold start. Overall I'd say:

E93 w/ ACM on Cold Start > 997 C2S w/ Sport Exhaust > C63 unmodded, but all of those will set off car alarms.

I'm interested to get the F8x in there ... Given my ED guesstimation I'm thinking it will be between the 997 w/ PSE and the C63, but you might be right, could be quieter. If I remember right, it was like 85 db.

Here's an F8x cold start cycle sound clip taken outside with an auto-leveled high def stereo mic sitting just behind the exhaust centered. Nothing too interesting, and I recorded it mostly to heard the weirdo sounds of this engine. If you listen with headphones you can hear the weird repetitive soviet-area freezer compressor sounds after cold start ... no idea what would cause that ...

Wait until y'all have catless downpipes, couldn't believe how much that small mod changed the entire sound as decibel of the exhaust.

I giggle when I hear a car alarm chirp when I drive through a parking garage, and cold start is obnoxious. It reminds me of the Akra GT4 I had on my e92.

I don't have an M3 yet, but I have had the bmw perf exhaust on my 330i for like 6 years now. 3 years ago we bought a great old house in the city, most of the homes on our street don't have a driveway because it is such an old neighborhood (I do thankfully!).

The first 80 seconds or however long that stupid cold start high idle/air pump on thing lasts my car is pretty damn loud.

I have AWESOME neighbors, on both sides (the whole damn street is great really) and they have never complained, but on mornings that I have to leave really early, I will put the clutch in and let it roll down the driveway a bit before firing it up just to not be so annoying to them.

I wish Bemvo tuned N52s, because I would have that stupid 'feature' done away with.
