The SGS3 I had and the Note2 I have were in need of cases because IMO these super thin phones with slick surfaces are just not designed with usability in mind. Getting a case that adds thickness and provides a grippier surface was a no brainer for me. One handed use is much easier with these phones if they have cases (for me anyway).

I always got cases for protection of the phone previously, but this last couple times around, there have been additional practical benefits. I don't know if it's because of the combination of thinness and larger display size or what.

Dropped my iP5 twice on concrete. Hit the edge both times. Pretty sure the screen would have cracked both times if it weren't for the bumper.
