Hey Guys,

The time has come to finally buy my dream car. I currently drive an e60 550-M but I want to make the jump to the legendary M3. I am a fairly young guy but I cannot go another year without getting one of my dream car purchases out of the way....okay enough about me lets talk about the car. It is a 2010 e93, one owner with 51k on it. It is deep blue with red interior. DCT, tech package and everything else. The asking price was 39,995 but I managed to get it down to 37,000. My question is should I do it? Does this seem like a good deal or should keep looking? Full disclaimer: I put a deposit down on the car but it is not too late to back out. I live in NJ and honestly the inventory is rather slim for the under 40 price point. The compromise with my fiancé was that it had to be a convertible and I wanted red interior 2009 or newer and lower miles. I probably won't track it but it WILL see its share of back roads and all out blasts. ( I wanted a coupe but I don't mind the convertible at all.. don't beat me up too bad on that.

1-Check always first VIN-nr of the car (VIN-report ) !
2-Take the keyfob to BMW/Dealer and check car history .
When possible post some pics of the car .

Be sure you really want a convertible. I've found there are two types of people. Those that love convertibles and everyone else. I bought a vert once thinking like you, "I guess I'm ok with a convertible." But I quickly learned I wasn't a convertible guy.

Plus in NJ it's either too hot or too cold most of the time to enjoy in my opinion. The rest of the time your driving a slightly heavier, slower, less attractive (in my opinion) car.

With 51K miles this is maybe a $35K car IMO assuming it looks great in person. Maybe offer 33-34K if you want the car and see how motivated they are. Make sure you get a PPI and and the car has a good maintenance history before you pull the trigger.

BTW...I'll say this about convertibles. They are a blast to drive with the top down (I've owned two 3-series verts, one an M3) but most women really don't want to have their hair messed up. They think they want a convertible but after they've been in one a time or two they will want to keep the top up. That was my experience at least.

I'm a coupe guy. I'll take a CF roof over a heavy vert anyday. :-) I just waxed my roof and LOVE that huge hunk of CF up there. Also got stuck in a HEAVY FL down pour and I could hardly hear the rain hit the roof. The windshield was pretty loud though.

Is the difference in acceleration and handling really that different between the coupe and convertible? I not gonna track but I definitely will be driving it aggressively. I've driven a coupe and it felt faster but it was a 6 speed and I got on a really good highway blast so I assumed that made up the difference. Are there any performance mods that can help compensate for the speed loss due to the weight increase?

The advantage of having the option to go topless at the push of a button, far outweighs (okay, pun intended) the .3 sec you'll lose in the 0-60... As a daily driver she's still a beast!

The vert is around 200Kg more which add up to a quite heavy car in the first place. Imaging you put another 3 blokes in.
Haven't driven the vert myself but would google some more on coupe vs vert test if performance is key.

Btw came from 60 550Msport myself. Lovely car and wanted more - the M3 (sedan in my case) certainly did the job!

Ps. Back here a used vert actually is less money than a coupe, but then again we only get so many Summer weeks over here...

(E93 M3, 0-60 4.5 secs)... I was concerned as well until I watched this video, purchased my M the following week! A year and a half later, ZERO regrets!!

How is the sedan doing for you? I am still deciding which route to go. Most of my friends told me M3 should be a coupe not a sedan and if I am getting an M3 it should be coupe. Any regrets in getting a sedan?

IMO an M3 is an M3. There's a reason why BMW made three different variations (coupe, conv., sedan). There's a calling/need for every individual. The performance is almost uniform across the board, and if you're not into autox or tracking then make a decision based on your needs.

If you're not hauling stuff around of looking for back seats, eliminate the E90. If you dont want to lose and rigitidy in the frame, eliminate the E93. But, if none of that matters and you're just looking for a bloated cruiser with some great induction noise and the ability to drop the top, go with the E93.

Just weight your options, and dirve em all if you can. I didn't notice too much of a difference in speed between the three, the thrill of it all outweighs that.

While it certainly never hurts to ask, this car is booking at 40,xxx in "good condition". The seller would have to be hanging by the skin of his or her teeth to sell a 2010 E93 that's loaded for 33-34k.

Its a fair price at 37 to 39k. I always check car max because they are not a good deal but they are a fair price. The link below is a Vert with approximately the same miles and the same price as what you are getting. It will be hard to find that combination that you want, and this is a fair price.

No, that's a little quicker than the norm. But 4.8 - 5.0 is average (i usually get a 4.9ish in my E93)... still damn quick when the top is down!!

The vert is 440lbs heavier - over 4000 lbs, it's just not going to feel the same imo

I have driven coupes, sedans, and convertibles. The couple and the sedan felt the same but the vert felt heavier and slower. It's a lot heavier and you can feel it.

Welp I pulled the trigger on the vert. Pick it up tuesday! so excited

I bought an e93 M3 convertible after driving all 3 varieties (coupes with and without sunroofs, e90 sedan, and vert). I'm a diehard coupe guy and NEVER in my life did I think I'd own a vert. In fact, I was against them 1000%.

So how does an anti-vert person make the transition:

AGE: I'm now 38. I got a bit older, had a bit more money, and realized that I was honestly not going to take the M car to a race track anyways... so I ended up with a vert that was sort of an impulse purchase to replace a 335i coupe. If I was in my 20's, I'd go coupe.

LOOKS: I will say, top down, the car is dead sexy. Like exotic car sexy, and better looking than the coupe I think. Top up, windows down and no b-pillar.... also sexy. Top up windows up, hmmm, I'd prefer the coupe. Thus, I almost always have the top down.

SPEED: It's fast enough for me... I keep M drive mode on. I am a speed freak. (back in my day, I had an e46m3 that I stripped every ounce of weight out of, that sort of ridiculous stuff, etc etc). I haven't been able to really tell a difference in handling between top up (higher center of gravity) and top down (lower center of gravity but more weight over the rear axle). Before I made my purchase, I test drove a 2008 6 speed coupe and 2011 dct convertible at a dealer (I know the 3 model year diff and diff transmission, but it was all I could get at the local bmw dealer at the same time). About 30k miles on each. Anyway -- The vert felt faster. Probably because of DCT, probably because it was newer, who knows. In my own dumb mind, this "authorized" the vert purchase.

THE TOP IS RIDICULOUSLY COOL: The top mechanism is really well designed. As a guy with an engineering background, i enjoy watching it every time. Also, it's a hit with people. A guy the other day watched the top go up in a parking lot and called the car a transformer. He was panhandling and actually did a really funny and quite good rap about "silver transformer car". I gave him a few bucks.

Again came from a 550 and was looking for a tighter sedan so never considered the coupe so different story in my case.
I love the car. Have fam incl two kids and even if they actually very rarely ride in the car I like the look of the sedan. Clearly more sleeper than the coupe, which I don't mind.
