Lightbulb How often will you track/autocross your F8x?

I know that results will not be exactly reflective of the general population because this is a the sample is from a car forum but the car is made to be the perfect middle point between a track oriented car and a daily driver so I thought it would be interesting to see the distribution. Feel free to chime in on why you will not track your car or why you believe anyone buying this car should track it

I personally hope to take my car to the track at least 4 times a year I work near Sonoma raceway and although I'm not sure if they have public days I know they offer racing lessons. I also want to take my car to the other California tracks such as willow springs and Mazda Laguna Seca. Being a SCCA member I've always had the opportunity to go to different type of track events but never had the car to do so, that will be changing soon (At the cost of a lot of tyre money )

Being in Europe makes it easy to track but I'll probably do sessions 3-5 times a year. First I hope standard brakes are indeed and upgrade from E92.

I'd love to aim for 3-5 a year but I know realistically, it'll be more like 1-2.

I checked the 1-2 times a year box which makes me sad as until the last 18 months (and for about 12 straight years) I've been a 3-5 times per year guy. Simply not as much time anymore.

I must say though, while I think this will be the most trackable M-car yet, were I still going 5 times per year I'd look into a dedicated track car. My friend's 996 GT3 is stripped and prepped and he just hooks it to the back of his Ram diesel without having to spend the time worrying about changing out the consumables and potentially damaging a brand new 80k dd.

Your plan sounds like a fine one though. Tires and brakes will get expensive, but you've picked one of the great DD/track combo cars around. Enjoy.

If I stuck to auto-x, it would be more. I don't have the fear of putting my car into wall doing that. On the track, there is always that potential.

Let me know when you head out there. We can have two M4s out there!

Too much kids soccer/baseball/basketball/tennis to worry about a track day.

I voted 1-2 times a year. My hopes are to build spec e46 in 2015, so that will see track much more often.

3-5 times and some Targa Tour events. I'm hoping for strong brake performance too.

I agree with OP, the vast majority of M3/4 will never see a track, but plenty of the corporation parking building.

I'm hoping to be able to take advantage of the upcoming Dominion Raceway in Virginia... we'll see how it all turns out

Really? I was unaware. I'm moving to VA Beach in less than 2 weeks.

That'll be tempting being that close.

I tells ya.....you Quebecers get it all. it makes me so mad........

myzmak SMASH!

But, really, with all the DBs here in YYC making big bucks in investment banking, law, energy, etc, there are so many freaking track cars on the roads (lambos, ferraris, porsches, M3s, AMGs, etc) - and WAAAAY beyond what a city of this size should actually have - it is beyond ridiculous that Calgary hasn't had a track in or near town for the last couple of years.

There are plans to open a new one in the next year or so just outside of town (with some real money/plans behind it) but, until that happens, my own tracking use of this car will be limited. Once that opens, I'll be in the 3-5 times per year range. Would do more but the other interests and demands of life (kids, skiing, hiking, etc, etc, etc)....oh, and work, kind of make that all impossible.

yeah, I think they need to step up the marketing... I stumbled across it by accident really. It looks pretty promising and ambitious with everything they are trying to cram into the space. I'm curious to see how it turns out. and yeah - that location is pretty great.

I'm definitely going to do some track days at Thunderhill, Sonoma, and Laguna Seca with my M3 but not more than once or twice a year. I've done Laguna Seca with BMW CCA and Thunderhill with HOD in my 1-series in the past and they were really well run and safe.

However, the desire to do it as often has gone down once I started racing in 24 Hours of Lemons. Plus there, you don't care of what possible damage your car can get and it's wheel to wheel racing!

I plan on doing the Nurburgring when we do our ED. Once home, I'll probably do Thunderhill and Laguna Seca.

Never, their focus for this car is clearly to make it the best daily driver yet, and that's what I'm going to use it for.

Considering that the M division is saying this is the most track ready car, yeah.

Just to rub it in, those are the tracks within less than 5 hours drive from where I live : We also have plenty of active clubs making for a very flexible track calendar .

45~75 minutes
Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant
Sanair
Autodrome St-Eustache

3 hours
Shannonville Motorsport Park
Calabogie Motorsport Park

5~6 hours away
Mosport
Watkins Glen

In return, we need to deal with the crazy taxes and awful road conditions (makes you wonder where all the tax money goes )
