Has bmw ever been the first for some thing

Hi guys this is a bit of a strange one. I was having a chat with a couple of mates who own different branded European cars and the topic came up. What innovations has each European manufacture brought to the table e.g Volvo was the first to install seat belts but I can't think of one thing bmw was first for. Other then the turbine engine in the me 262 which keep in mind didn't even get used as they failed after take off.

So I leave u with this question what has the " ultimate driving machine manufacture" created before any one else ???????

First car with HID (E32), first car with color display navigation system, (E38), first car with controller/joystick for navi (E65).

BMW is not the best inventor/innovator, just a good implementer and quite good at marketing.

and lets not forget this one...

Btw... Volvo was the first with a THREE point seat belt. Not the first with seat belts in a car.

The reason I buy BMW is the way they drive. I'm not looking for the latest and greatest gadgets when I shop for a new car.

I know they were the first with Electronic Throttle Control, 6-Speed Auto, Electronic Parking Brake, HID lights, and I believe they were the first to have a DSC system (although I am not positive on that one).

Some people buy them for the brand name. Some buy for the status. I bought mine because I enjoyed driving it. Will I buy another one? Yes, I will.

I think we buy them as bmws have a feel to them that not many cars can replicate. It's hard to explain that to a Audi owner though lol

It is a shame bmw can't replicate Toyota build quality .

Wait scrap that Toyota can't build cars to save them selves... Lets change that to volkswagon it seems there building there cars quite well now in terms of reliability

The F10 is one of the best selling BMW model even though it places usually last in handling in its class.

The Polo GTI doesn't play fake engine sounds through its radio's speakers, it has a standalone speaker under the hood (Soundaktor or sound actor). The sad thing, I'm not trying to be funny or cute.

Considering that most car-makers use something other than in-line 6 configurations, I am just guessing:
First car-maker to offer an inline 6 engine with tri-turbo (50d)!
Maybe also first with I6 with twin-turbo and then again with twin-scroll?

Perhaps even first to make a V8 with twin-twin-scroll turbos?

Please let me know if I am wrong.

You are right! That was already in the 90s, more than 10 years before the N54/N55 BMW. Thanks, and my apologies to Toyota.

OK, so perhaps BMW was the first to mass-produce all-aluminium twin-turbo I6 engines then. I believe BMWs N54 is 70kg/154lbs lighter than the older Supra 2JZ-GTE engine.

if you would take a BMW badge and put it on a Hyundai more people would buy them and pay more money for them. BMW is a sign of quality although sometimes a false sense of quality. People can be brainwashed into buying or doing anything with good clever marketing.
I on the other hand am buying my first BMW because I went to the PC in South Carolina to do the driving school when my Fiance was picking up her 135i. I liked how they handled and all the technology. But all the technology just means there is more "Stuff" that can go wrong. Eyes wide open...
