My Never Ending Quest to Find the Perfect 335. Should I get iDrive?
Hello all,
In my never ending search to find my perfect 335, I have come to a cross roads. I am looking for a E90, 6 speed, black interior, sport and premium package car yadda, yadda. But my question for you all is as follows: Should I be settle for a car without Navigation/iDrive? I always wanted iDrive as a nerdy computer type. I know all the downsides and how some don't like it, but I wanted it. But my problem is every time I find a 335i with all the right options, it doesn't have iDrive. These cars are always perfect except for that. I have been looking for well over a year and only found one that I would consider. So for all those that have iDrive, would you do it again? And for those that didn't get iDrive, do you wish you would have? Cheers Frank |

I've been searching for a while too and also want idrive and I know how you feel, it's so frustrating to find a car with all the things you want and then find out it doesn't have idrive . I feel that you should find exactly what you want or else you may regret settling. I mean there are plenty of people who originally wanted idrive but can't find it with the combo they want and settle and they're happy about it but I just feel that you should look for something with everything you want. It takes time but it will surely come up.

You want a 2009 build or newer. The previous iDrive is awful.

+1 I would say to go for the iDrive. I was pretty adamant against getting it but the sales rep talked me into it last minute. I have my iPhone hooked up via bluetooth and iPod classic physically plugged in through the center console. Both seem to integrate pretty well. Being able to be connected like this was a big selling point for me.

When i was looking for mine. e90 335i. the car must have IDRIVE, SPORT PKG and less than 55k miles (heated seat was a feature that my wife was looking for but i knew i could retrofit it so i wasnt aware)with the budget i had only a change to get the pre lci but i had more options than i expected LOGIC7, comfort acces, cold weather pkg. i was able to find couple of LCI with sport pkg and idrive, i actually found one without sport pkg. one owner really nice car 6MT, in my budget but it was sold ;( So keep looking and dont be scared to even fly to see the car, do a PPI before. good luck |

I drove a base model 2007 E90 335i for 2 years without iDrive and not having it wasnt't the end of the world to me at that time. I now drive a 2010 E90 M 335i fully loaded with iDrive and sorry but I dont't know how I drove my previous BMW without it. The iDrive feature is pretty amazing and even all the reviews I've read/watched say that BMW's iDrive is hands down the best available system currently out. It makes Benz's and Caddies nav system look obsolete. The nav isn't even my favorite part of the iDrive system though, I love being able to store music to my cars hard drive and have it all displayed on the screen. Pretty much having the iDrive system makes operating the car much easier and much more fun.
I'd try to find a 335i with iDrive and maybe sacrifice one of your other wants in order to get you in a N54. Good luck and I hope I helped a little.

You can still have bluetooth without iDrive. The only thing that sucks is going into menus etc. on the small monochrome screen. I haven't tested this but if you're connected via bluetooth and you have iPhone/Android your turn by turn maps should play over your speakers. Maybe get a vent phone mount and just use your phone instead. The newer iDrive is nice but it's not nice enough for me not to buy a car that has everything else I want.

I've had 335's with and without iDrive. It's nice to have but not a deal breaker.

Do you consider a 3er to be a large sports car or a small GT? If the latter - and I'll bet that that's true of most buyers/owners - IMHO you want idrive. I second the comment to hold out for 2009+ as well. I always thought it was gimmicky until I got my car... now I quite like it.

I love the iDrive in my 2010 335i.
It's easy to use and has all sorts of fun features. I like how you can customize some features of the car too.

My word of advice: Get what you want and do not settle for anything less.
The potential of living with that regret everyday will eat you alive. |

I was in the same position. I wanted a car with 2009+ with M Sport, iDrive,L7, Cold, Sport, Premium and CA, PDC. Could not find a that combination anywhere after months. I settled on a car that has everything I wanted minus the M Sport. I look back and wish I waited for M Sport.

Get what you want.
With that said, i do not have the iDrive because i was looking for a 6MT in Space grey with Dakota Leather. Found one in my price range with 33k miles. Every option i wanted other than the iDrive, and i dont regret it at all. I just say its weight savings

on't have iDrive...but the only time I miss it is when I need to have directions. I end up using Google Maps on my phone.
I made a list of options I wanted on my car. This was the only one that wasn't important so when I found my car...I wasted no time in saying yes. I put Sports Pkg, Comfort access, Logic 7, 6speed, etc above navi. It was a bonus...but yes at times I do miss it. |

If your going new...the LCI E92 models have bmw apps on their navi's. So Pandora and other cool apps which the older models won't have. That's the navi I would want!

Also, Infotainment systems are becoming more mainstream in cars these days.
Since you're into techy things, you'd want the iDrive since it much than navigation. I like being able to configure my car the way I want.
