Nope. I used the Photoshop ND filter method and then HDR'd it.

1. Load image into PS.
2. Open new layer and change blend mode to Soft Light
3. Paint over blown out areas with black (Can also save under-exposed areas using white)
4. Adjust layer opacity to taste
5. Merge visible.
6. Duplicate layer
7. Apply High Pass filter set to 20 pixels.
8. Merge layers and flatten
9. Apply HDR toning to taste

Great editing. How did you make that little fading light thing(not sure what to call it) on the top right corner?

It was actually just a simple white > transparent gradient with a low opacity, subtle but adds to the image I think.

Nice work. I have a few hazy pictures that need cleaning up. I'll have to give this a try.

Thanks. Just realized I forgot an important step.

It's always good to learn something new. Photoshop is such a powerful program, I'm sure I'm not even using 5% of it. Anyway, Here's my go at removing the haze (or volcanic dust in this case).

haha, and the campus internet is the one you'd want to use as it would be the fastest to get the programs...... sometimes you just can't win...

grab photoshop CS5 and lightroom 3. and maybe DxO optix pro version 6

beyond that, you won't need anything. and lightroom and DxO are sort of the same thing, so it comes down to which one you'd be more comfortable using day to day. I like how DxO handles all the different lenses and camera bodies, which is why i use it over lightroom, but i want to give lightroom a little more time and see if i can learn it still.

You're a student, right? Doesn't your school offer it at a discount? Students here (Univ. of IL) get it for $175. Even Amazon has it for under $200.

Even direct from Adobe, Photoshop CS5 is only $199 if you can prove you are a student. It is the full deal Extended Edition, the only difference is you have to send them a copy of your student ID. That's $800 in savings, for the cost of a scan and email (i.e. free). It's well worth paying for it if you can. Don't have to worry about "the man."
Plus, when CS6 comes out, you only have to pay the upgrade price.
