Unhappy Unbelievable: problems already!

Wow,

I picked the car up on Tuesday, it is Friday and there is already a problem. There are less than 500KM on the car and it has an ABS/DSC/DBC malfunction indicators going off. I can't turn on DSC, nor can I use cruise control. I am visiting the German dealer in the morning. The faults will not clear with restarts, and I am not going to tamper with anything at this point as far as resetting the ECU via a battery disconnect. I am not sure that that will clear the fault codes in this modern ECU anyway.

It is a crying shame that my car came off the line not 2 weeks ago, and I have to take it back to the dealership during my first week of ownership.

Until the malfunction indications appeared, I was having a blast. This car is a lot of fun even below 5500 RPM and without full throttle. I still love it, and am giving Bimmer the benefit of the doubt with respect to the issue.

What a way to ruin a Saturday.

Are these common problems with the E90?

Sorry for the rant, I am just disappointed.

The mech told me that it is an abs "black box" that is broken. They can't order one until Tuesday. I have to commend the German dealer. They are pretty competent, from my perspective. One good thing about being in Bavaria is that it should only take 1 or 2 days to get the part.

I dropped my car off last monday with similar issues. DSC/DBC/reduce performance/increased emissions (which came on later in the day). It had at the time of drop off about 15010 miles so I was just about to turn it in anyway, but they had it for a week I got it back Friday afternoon(last night). Good thing was I went out of town monday right after I dropped it off, and got a call that it was ready for pick up on my way back in to town. So no time lost I guess. My dealer said the issuse was the same as yours so, at least they are on track with what it is. You should have it back in no time.

In a place where it is home to BMW, I would be surprised if they were not competent. Dont worry. I am sure you will be taken care off.

Not really. I see these as teething problems. It'll get sorted out. The BMWs I've owned just seemed to better as time went on.

I had a similar problem. The DSC failed on the way home from the dealer. It turns out that it was a manafacturing problem. A wire from the controler to one of the wheels was shorted out when it was caught in a metal bracket during assembly. They replaced the controller before they discovered the actual problem.

Let us hope that it is not the same problem as your exadius. In Germany, this car cost an arm, a leg, and a child (Pretty close to $150,000 with a 19% sales tax included). It is for this reason that there is a possibility that this dealer hasn't seen too many of these cars and might not be aware of the quirks.

Which wheel caused the problem?

Thanks!

A little OT, but it is my experience that most Americans over here, really don't pay much attention to it, but the Germans seem a bit more "aware" of the M3 badge. In general use, it seems to get more stares off-post than on.

I have had no problems in my first 900 miles, but hope that the local dealer will provide a smooth service at 1200 miles (at my cost), with the relative rarity of the vehicles in this neck of the woods (I know of only 4 M3s and at least one M5 locally)
