New 520d F10 B47 ordered

Dear All,

Just joined the forum. I have ordered the following;

BMW F10 520d SE Saloon B47 2.0
--Black Sapphire
--Cinnamon Brown Dakota leather
--ZAS Active Security package with Driving Assistance Plus
--ZGN Advanced Parking package
--ZNP Media package - BMW Professional
--Steering wheel heating
--18" V-spoke style 328 alloy wheels
--Climate Comfort windscreen
--Lumbar support, driver and front pass.
--Seat heating, rear
--Ambient lighting
--Adaptive Headlights
--12V power sockets
--Head-up Display
--Internet
--Sun protection glass

Was able to get a discount of £7532 with Free BMW Seal & Protect. I added Service Inclusive. The total price £36143 with 5 year Service inclusive.

Any thoughts would be highly appreciated. I may still have time to add/remove options.

Cheers,
RP

Personally I'd upgrade the loudspeakers as the standard ones are poor. I've just got a B47 520d with Advanced Loudspeakers (1st level upgrade) and I feel this should be the standard firmest. Happy with advanced but would go for HK if choosing again.

Thanks a lot Flyboy-fil for the reply. I am not much into music. I am happy even with my e90 speakers so I think I would be alright with the standard ones. Any other feature you think I should add/remove?

You got a nice spec there and particularly like the colour combo. Personally I wouldn't bother heating my passenger’s backsides and would go for the likes of adaptive cruise. A bit expensive compared to other manufacturers but every time I get on a busy motorway I wish I had ticked that box..

Enjoy your car when it arrives.

Great spec agreed.
I added heated rear seats and the kids love them. Their previous complaint was why their seats didn't heat in my last car.
I liked the sports steering wheel as I just liked the feel of the smaller chunkier rim.

Would have loved adaptive cruise too bit has to draw a line due £££'s

Thanks a lot Gordon4499 and Flyboy-fil. We are super excited about the car. I was chopping and changing the specs for over 2 months. Was also trying to get max possible discount. Have I got a good discount after my efforts?

For the leather With a 2 year old, light colors were out of equation and personally I did not like the look of black that much. It looked more like very dark grey. Hence we decided to go for Cinnamon brown which gives the complimentary look to the look and would not stain as easily as the lighter colors.

Went for the heated rear seats as we use the car over the weekend a lot and my OH needs to sit with our daughter at the back ad it was not much expensive.

As per Flyboy-fil's suggestion I am considering upgrading the sound system. Is it worth though considering that I am more than happy with my 2006 reg 3 series sound? This I assume would definetely be equal to that if not better.

I am also thinking about the ACC but read somewhere that it might interfere when not needed and if we turn it off then there is no point in having it.

That looks like a good discount to me. I got 12% off mine 2.5 years ago and thought I was doing well with that.
I'm surprised by how much is taken off these cars these days, it must hurt resale values (as the percentages are compared to the retail price presumably?)
When I bough my E39 nearly 13 years back, I only got 2% off.

Not sure what you mean with the ACC interfering when not needed, are you referring to the adaptive brake assistance whereby if it thinks you will hit something, it breaks for you? I think they have improved this on the LCIs over the previous versions)
If yes to that, you can turn it off, but why not leave it there. really only for when you're not paying attention.

Nice spec there, I'm sure you like the HUD, one of the best features in my opinion.

we're all waiting for the pics though!

Hi AP. I meant the Active Cruise Control. I read someone's bad experience with it. I dont remember exactly the issue. One of the dealers also said, it is better to have more control in your hands but I think I will add it.

I was able to get around 23% off a 530d but decided to go for 520d.

What I did was get the dealer to match the Autoebid price for 520d. For the 530d it was Drivethedeal.com(they dont have any bmw deals now) who had the best price. Just took a screenshot and multiple dealers were willing to match it.

I will definitely upload the pics once I get the delivery.

There are (were) some good discounts. I managed to get £12k off a 535d in August. They effectively matched the Drivethedeal.com bid.

That was massive Ian. well done. I think more expensive the car bigger the discounts they has. They had almost £22k off a 7 series.

Regarding sound, if you search here and the other 5 series forums you'll find a general low regard for the standard speakers sound quality.

I put quite a bit of kit on the 5 so 12k off represented just over 22% so about the same as you got.

I had looked at a 7 but they drove a bit "big" for me. Like-for-like kit wise the "exclusive" model worked out cheaper than a 5 series! The discounts on 7s were huge & I can't imagine they're going to get less with the replacement due next year.

Not having prices in the open via Drive the deal may make it harder to discover the best price but I can't imagine prices have actually gone up - just means more effort.

Multi Function Display is just awesome, and I would put 19's on it too personally

Ian : I did not go for the 7 series for the same reason. Too big for me.
Piers : The cost has gone so high I can not justify further for the 19"s.

I have added the driving assistance plus package today and delivery estimate is mid October.

You will find that the Lumbar support, driver and front pass is not as intuitive as a other manufacturers, it took me weeks to find out the best position. The ACC is a winner as is the HK speaker system.

@swissfraser - I meant car pics but of course you knew that already .

@ams3177 - Initially the delivery was in 2nd week of November. Then it kept moving earlier. I finally got it for 43rd week. The car is with the dealers right not. The dealer claims that the earlier delivery was because they put it in as priority. I dont mind giving them credit.

@Blaster - Thanks a lot for the heads up. I might PM you if I need some help. Is it Ok?

Guys - What are the things I need to make sure I get while collecting the car? Documents and otherwise. I have the complimentary Protect and Seal so I know I need to get the kit that comes with it. Anything else other than the V5 document, handbook and the log book?

Cheers.

I would also add that the BMW car insurance was the cheapest for me. I have 4 years no claims bonus. They also give you 10% discount on whatever the online quote is.
£630 for a brand new 520d with New for Old in the first year, personal accident cover of 20k, 0 access and Bonus protected.

My current 8 year 318i was £670.

I tried from 6k miles to 15k miles per year. I found that after 12k the price starts increasing.

A bit late to the party. Congrats on the new car.

The quote for my new car is at £550 though my wife has only had a license for a couple of years (18 years of nagging).
