iDrive or not?
I just ordered a 128i with the Premium Package... on My BMW page it gives me two options of manuals to download, with and without iDrive. How do I know if my car has iDrive or not? I don't remember that being an option when ordering the car. I do have BMW Assist with Bluetooth... does that say anything?
When I go to http://www.bmwusa.com/bluetooth, there are 2 options... and I have no idea what either mean... Navigation System Professional and Preparation for mobile phone Business with Bluetooth interface (609,639) and Radio BMW Professional and Preparation for mobile phone Business with Bluetooth interface (663,639) In addition to wanting to know if I will have iDrive or not, how do I know if my iPhone 3GS will be able to play music through the Bluetooth system? Thanks in advance to anyone that can help answer these questions. |

iDrive is part of the Navigation option, so if you ordered the Navi option ($2,100, IIRC), you need the iDrive manual.
The Premium package is irrelevant here as the Navi/iDrive is a stand alone option. For my '08 128i, the iDrive manual included instructions for the radio as many settings are made through the iDrive interface. Cars without Navi/iDrive came with a separate Radio manual - probably the 663 you mention. (BMW doesn't make life simple, but the 128i is a great car - enjoy!) Tom |

iDrive is the big video screen on the dash. You should know if you have it - your receipt would show a $2000 (approx) option.

Another option I wish I had ordered on my 135i. Loved that feature in the 335i loaner I had when my M3 was getting maintenance work done. Too expensive for me though.....seeing as how VZNavigator and Google Maps is always more updated and is free w/my wireless service.

I think if the cost was dropped to around $1,300, it would be much more attractive. Tom |

Never needed or wanted NAV. However, BMW likes to force your hand. With the so many "settings" you pretty much need the idrive knob and screen. So, yes, pony up the $2100 and save yourself lots of grief!
