Fuel Tank Plate Fallen In HELP!!!
Hi after filling up some diesel, I noticed when I got home that the 'metal flap' that covers the fuel diesel tank hole was no longer present. Now I'm pretty sure there was a flap last time I remember however I'm not sure if it has fallen into the fuel tank? If so will it cause damage (get sucked into a fuel injector...)
Is there a way this can be checked or remedied cheaply?? I'm pretty sure it was the dodgy nozzle at the filling station that caused this. As per the pic, you can see a straight hole down, as opposed to a mates pic on his 318i he has a metallic plate covering the nozzle hole. I'm pretty sure mine looked similar.. Please help. My car is a 320d E90 05 Plate. http://i62.tinypic.com/1zvz70p.jpg http://i62.tinypic.com/2qvcyuc.jpg |

Weird. Didn't even think it'd be able to fall in.

On the e36 and 46 Lift the rear seat and remove the liner and there are some screws to remove the plate below that is the tank and the sender unit unblot the sender unit and try retrieve the flap that way, personally I'd just leave it in there it won't do any Damage

I think the Only way to fix and possible Retrieve the Broken Tab, is to Remove and Inspect the Filler Neck.
Go to a good Body Shop, not dealer. This should not take more than 2 Hours to fix completely. Also recommend finding a Fuel Filler Neck complete from Auto Wrecker, or Ebay and take it to Body shop on first visit. And, If the Broken Tab has fallen into Tank... well option 1, Leave it there. Option 2, get it OUT....and Make sure the Rubber Seals on the Tank Access are Replaced (NOT REUSED OLD Ones), It a one time thing. DN |
