Tire comparisons

E90 M3 Sedan 6 spd.

I have the stock 19" rims. I'm looking at tire options. I think I've narrowed it down to 3.

Option one:

Oversized rubber.
Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110
275/35R19 Front
295/30R19 Rear

Less oversized.
Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110
255/35R19
275/35R19

Option two:
Stock sizes
Potenza RE-11
245/35R19 Front
265/35R19 Rear

I can get the Hankook at a savings of like $600, or $500 depending on size. Also, are these valid sizes for fitment? Do I need to keep the stagger exactly +20? Do you have to align an M3 every time you do a tire change? What about road force balancing? Is that different than the standard mount and balance?

I expect the Hankooks would last longer, and not perform as well as the RE-11s, but I think I'm OK with that, as I'm not going to the track any time soon. Would they behave significantly worse than the stock PS2 tires I have?

Also, I plan to go through America's Tire. Any horror stories I should know about? I plan to get their certificates for lifetime road hazard warranty.

I barely understand what spacers are, but do I need to use them, or is that more a thing for changing rims? I am happy with the stock 19" rims.

for option 1, there's no way a 275/35 would fit up front (way too tall). 275/30 should, but it's too much tire for the rim width (as is the 295 rear), unless they're ZCP wheels, in which case they're still on the wide side.

doesn't sound like you're going to track the car, so I'd recommend the second option, although I'd suggest you look into a PS2 or the new Pilot Super Sport. but that's just me, and I believe in buying high quality rubber to make the most of this car's handling.

Is there an easy way to tell if they are ZCP rims? I suppose I could take a picture.

I guess imgur doesn't like forums. If you just highlight the address and load it directly it works.

I see now that your car is a 2008 - unless you bought new wheels, you must have the regular 19's (OEM style 220's). I'd strongly suggest 255/35 fronts and 275/35 rears. do yourself a favor though and get quality tires - the new PSS tires are getting rave reviews and they're actually cheaper than the PS2s they're replacing (how often does that happen?).

EDIT: just saw the picture - those are indeed the OEM 220s. they're 19x8.5 in front and 19x9.5 in rear.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I went with the 255/275 configuration Hancook tires. I've only had them on for 2 days, but so far, they seem almost as good as the PS2s the car came with.

Hard acceleration from a start with M mode feels almost the same. The difference is probably noticeable, but I am happy to have saved 1000 dollars or so. Also, the Hancooks were available to be put on the next day, but the Bridgestones would have taken at least a week.

I was down to the metal, so I just got the cheaper tires, and so far I'm happy. If I get 20k miles out of them like I did the PS2s, I'll be even happier.
