It is nice to have the extra flash, and the 580 is more powerful and much better built then the 430s. So you might find yourself using it more of the time if you were to go that route, however there's no denying the savings of just getting the infrared trigger only.

I like off camera flash appearance, on camera is nice with a bounce. The added bonus of the soft reflector on the 580 or 600 really can add some nice light to a picture. The 600 also comes with a gel holder and a yellow gel.

I too dont like direct on camera flash. I usually bounce off the roof or a wall. Figured it was time to up my game and imagination a little bit. The 580 is most likely the way to go though. Now just have to pick up a couple of extra days or have a solid day of scenic tours to up the tip jar!

I did pick up the gary fong collapsible package and have been experimenting... It never ceases to amaze me what you can do with a little creativity and a camera

We'll see what happens when I pop in at my local camera shop

I contacted Diana DeGette(D Colorado) about the demise and transition of film cameras to digital cameras. Her response was that since most of the film has been used up that digital cameras which don't use film will replace 35mm film.
I thought we had all the idiots here in CA?

Sadly, all the idiots do not reside in CA. They're pretty well scattered all over and growing in numbers every day. I think the internet is exacerbating a large hole in the Bozone layer resulting in a rapid increase in the number of bozos floating around.

I think that is also why unemployment in her district is down, they used up all their unemployment.

He's been MIA since fall. The site purged a bunch of people who made waves in the off topic forum.

There was a ton of threads that were locked and/or removed at the same time.

Pretty bold move by the site....

Fixed.
I guess the statement about absolute power corrupting absolutely is applicable here now? The "I'm a mod" disease.

For those of you who are bored at work...

They are demolishing the large parking garage right across the street from my office... figured I'd put up my webcam.

So I'm taking the train from Oakland to Santa Barbara next week to pick up my new X1. I will of course be doing some sight seeing as well as driving back up the coast for a ways. I have way too much gear to bring it all, so what do you guys think? My 100-400 will be on my 1D4, as I will probably be checking out the zoo while I am there. That leaves my 5D2. I could bring the 24-105, my 16-35, or instead bring my 20,40, 50 and 85 primes. I'm thinking I want at least one 2.8 lens for new car on the beach type shots, but I'm not sure. I have a big camera bag, but with too much gear it gets very heavy quickly.

Really I'm just bored at work right now and day dreaming about how cool next week will be compared to right now. I hope to take a but load of pictures, for the train trip-on.

I have this discussion with myself daily. My bag contains both the 6D with my 400 5.6 and my 7D with the 70-300L, plus my 135L, my 24-105, my 40mm pancake, my 85 1.8, assorted filters, extenders, TCs, straps, card holders and readers, plus my 15" MBP.

No wonder my back hurts all the time. But leaving a lens at home is soooooo difficult. I mean, I might *need* that lens.

Been shooting (when non professionally/not an event) a lot with my x100 and a teleconverter that turns it into a 52.5mm equivalent. My back no longer hurts (compared to a 5d3/7d 35L,50L,85L,17-40L,70-200L II, flashes, batteries, accesories etc). This is my new go to for going out or vacations.

Granted the teleconverter isn't super sharp in the corners, stopping down helps a lot.

Going mirrorless makes me never want to use my SLR unless it requires me to. The tradeoff between convenience and image quality is simply too huge. Plus, I never have to watch out for others messing up/breaking/spilling stuff on/stealing my gear anymore since the x100 is so discrete. The x100 kills at low light/high iso too (i can only imaging how much better the x100s is). I mean, there are serious limitations to it, but for 95% of casual shooting it is just as good.

I have an X-100 and love it, but not for anything that moves. The auto-focus just cant keep up. For museums, landscapes and such, it really is a great little camera, and I love the style of it, and I will be bringing it along as well.

For spur of the moment quick shots and stuff though, I just don't have the menus down enough and it frustrates the heck out of me sometimes, whereas I can grab any of my canon bodies and use them without thinking.

Since I'm not flying and not dealing with TSA, and will have my own car coming back, I don't mind lugging the heavier gear. I like to be prepared for anything.

Have you updated the firmware for your x100? The AF speed is greatly increased. It's way more usuable than how it was when it was from the factory firmware.
