Thanks!
You have to cut it out since the charcoal filter is permanently attached to the airbox. You can leave the stock air filter in but it is big and bulky so that's why when people do the delete they replace it with a less restrictive K&N filter since its convenient.

Heres the link for the DIY: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...light=charcoal

You need to disconnect it first from the engine bay. Then take the airbox out. After the airbox is out, you can loosen the 2 screws holding it and pull STRAIGHT out carefully. Take your time doing this and put the MAF sensor somewhere safe as you are cleaning the airbox.

charcoal canister "delete" is a joke. on any car. seriously.

it's all in the head. like it was mentioned, if you're modding this car for performance, this is the wrong car. you should've gotten a 335 if you're going to be counting every tiny bit of hp, down to even 0.5hp gains. but then again, if you got a 335, you wouldn't need to be counting hp by 0.5 increments. lol

it's obvious you've owned a honda. This charcoal delete does not involve a canister. It is a filter embedded within the filter housing of a BMW along with the intake air filter. And I'm lead to believe you are a troll whom does not own a BMW or do not know anything about your own BMW if you own one since you are a member!

blah blah blah... go ahead and "delete" your charcoal FILTER then. canister or not, go dyno your car and see how much power you gain from this mod. if 0.5hp floats your boat, then congrats to you. i'd rather drop a deuce for weight reduction and then go race my 328... cuz we all know the 328's are sports cars.

listen, if this mod provides no real hp gains, and it gives you only satisfaction (in your head like some are stating), then it's all good. Do it! You want to feel good driving your car, so do whatever pleases you.

I agree that this whole mod (K&N, Charcoal delete and silencer delete) is not about increasing hp, but rather provide smoother engine and a bit of aggressive sound!

i personally run the AFE stage 2 pro5r intake ( people rave about how much it sucks and it doesnt grant power but i really dont care it sounds amazing and i get a few more mpg's) anyhow, but in theory removing another filter that may not be blocking air but is still on the way of the air coming in would make the intake less restrictive and therefore make more power and not to mention give better gas mileage so for the people who say this does absolutly nothing id have to say you are wrong because theres absolutly no way freeing up more movement of air can be a con to any engine

Were not saying its a con, were saying it didnt do shit even tho removing the filter to allow more air makes logical sense. It just didnt do anything for myself or a number of my peeps on here. BUT your right we are wrong...but then again this is coming from someone who admits to not caring about losing power just because something sounds cool.

On a side note: does removing stock filter and replacing with K&N drop in filter worth the ~$30-40$?
at least does the car sound a little different? or just waste of $$?

I would think its less restrictive then the stock paper filter so i say go for it with the drop in. As far as gains or sound. You would have to have the most sensitive ass dyno on the planet to measure the gains or change in db level. but then again as you have read some members on here have ultrasonic sensors in there rear and there ears.
