Nuts

Today i added pecans, cashews, peanut butter to my morning protein shake and i was impressed with my energy and overall mood through the day. Just wondering if anyone here can speak from experience regarding adding certain varieties of nuts to their diet. They are kind of an investment - but if they are as healthy as i think they are i'm about to invest!

I love mixed nuts. I could sit and chow down on them like some folks do with potato chips. But take a look at the calories in just a handful. Nuts are a great source of healthy fat, but you can blow your diet up if you go overboard.

I eat roasted/salted almonds every day, big fan here. I have used almonds for nutrition and energy for 7-ish years. Almonds are dense with calories and nutrients.

I also really enjoy hazelnuts and walnuts, mainly in baking, ditto with pecans.

Peanuts as you likely know are not nuts but most people look at them that way. Peanuts and cashews are good, although almonds are my #1.

ya for whatever reasons i don't digest almonds or almond milk very well - so i avoid them, have zero issues with all other nuts. Just went ahead and ordered walnuts and pecans. Evidently cashews have tons of mood boosting properties.

I like to snack on trail mix with nuts, raisins and chocolate. It beats candy bars and pure sugar alternatives.

I've abandoned dairy and now soak cashews and walnuts (costco tubs, organic) together, then blend (hi speed) them with water, maple syrup, sea salt to make my own milk. Never felt better.

You should try eating those nuts raw, instead of roasted and salted. It's healthier and you'll realize how much better they taste without being processed. I eat raw almonds, walnuts, cashews, pecans, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds. You can get all of them in bulk at Costco for a fraction of the price of for a comparable amount of the roasted one's. Even my kids like the raw one's better.

Nuts are great and as previously mentioned very calorically dense. Walnuts are going to be the highest omega-3 nut. I typically add in some walnuts to my oatmeal every morning to add in some texture as well as help with the absorption of fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) since that is when I take my vitamins. Probably want to avoid taking too much in before a workout due to the slow digestion of lipids.

Not sure what your ultimate goal is but if you want to lose weight be cautious of the nut addiction. The calories add up quickly.

Costco has a couple of good variety packs (get the one without the Brazil nuts) and then another unsalted cashew nut one. Start mixing them together and it's a nice savory pick me up throughout the day.

Thanks @DocL I will try raw almonds. Other than salt, what are the downsides of roasted/salted almonds?

The more processing a food goes through before it reaches your mouth, the more unhealthy it is. Some studies have said that roasting nuts may damage their healthy fat. There have also been reports that it can also reduce nutrient content.

After a while of eating raw nuts I can't even eat anything roasted/salted/flavored anymore. I can taste all the chemicals used to give the flavor and I start to feel like sh!t shortly afterwards.

I love pistachio nuts, have to be careful as once you start then it's hard to stop as the flavor is so addictive.

Guys, avoid almonds. As heart healthy as they are, they also can boost your estrogen levels. Bitch tits are not good. Instead, try Brazil and Macadamia nuts. These help boost testosterone. I eat Brazil because of high cost of Macadamia.

I was buying raw cashews in the sealed bag at wholefoods and I think they tended to give me some digestive issues. Shelled hazelnuts, almonds and peanuts don't bother me at all.

I didn’t know so much about nuts until I found this thread. Lol. Will have to give the cashews a try during these times—definitely need some mood-boosting.
