Tire and Rim Insurance
I just took delivery of my 435 GC X Drive yesterday and i was told i have about a week to decide on the Tire and Wheel Insurance. Now when i call any dealer they are telling me its too late. Does anyone have a CA contact that would be able to help me with this? Appreciate all help.

I would definitely sweat it. In NYC, you're gonna go through rims and tires. I bent 3 rim and cracked one in 5 months with my 750. I purposely got the 18's instead of the 19's on my 335GT because I expect more of the same (and I already told them I'm taking the coverage). Living here, the coverage is an absolute MUST HAVE. Forget the take-offs, those will cost way more than the coverage. Contact whoever you have to to make sure you get that. Even if you gotta go to the GM or Owner of the dealership, get it done!

I live in Manhattan and commute to northern NJ for work along the WSH and Lincoln Tunnel. You NEED this coverage in this city. The streets eat through our wheels and tires like butter. And keep in mind NYS conveniently makes itself not responsible for damages incurred as a result of potholes from November 15 - May 15 (or something to that effect). Good times.

I was told had to be that day (of signing) to get it.
It's a crap shoot, like any insurance. So may not be worth getting worked up over, but I think you were given bad information by whomever said you had a week. I disagree on the take offs. The insurance is up to what, $1300? You can get take offs for not much more than that, especially if you're downsizing for the winter. Check the classified section and ebay, Craig's list, etc. Whether you need it in the city or not, I think it's too late unless you complain hard enough and get someone to agree to do it, but even then may not be possible at this point. |

Yes i need it in NYC. My previous car was an A4 with 19's and i changed around 8 tires. One of the reasons i got the 441 Ferric Grey this time. I'm fighting with them to let me get it. They've offered me a 3rd party insurance, anyone have experience with it?

ive had large rims and low profile tires on a lot of my cars........never had an issue EVER.
when I got my 3 series, i saw the sidewall looked pretty beefy, figured it would be good to go without insurance.....i was so wrong. ive already been through 3 tires and 1 bent rim. it would have pretty much paid for itself.

I live in NYC....just got a 2015 435 and everyone recommended for me to get the tire/wheel insurance, which I did. Costs around $35 a month, which is not bad considering the cost of the BMW tires/wheels. Keep in mind i have a MT so i do tend to get a little crazy at times, BUT I have been fine so far. Granted I have only been driving for 2 months, but i feel if you are careful and know the roads, you should be fine. But it feels good that i am protected even if something does happen. But my point is, driving in NYC is not as bad as everyone says (well at least not to me).

I just took delivery of my GC as well - the finance guy said I can add stuff on later if I change my mind. Do you want me to check for you about adding on for your car? I'm in Northern Virginia. I paid approx $1300 for my tire and wheel insurance.

Are you guys who are bending your wheels on 19" or larger wheels?
This was one of the reasons why I was fine with the OEM 18" M Sport wheels and saw no need to go with a larger diameter wheel.. For the winter, I'm running 235/45/18 and 245/45/18 winter tires. Figured a bit more of sidewall should address some of these issues. |

I'm not in the US but was also told either take the insurance when signing finance or not. I was not given a period. I think it has to do with finalization of the contract with the finance house and bmw. You are basically buying it with your car and once signed you have completed the purchase.
Having said that they did then say if I change my mind there's 3rd party insurers offering almost identical products I could look at. |

I drive through manhattan and queens weekly and have never had a problem on e90 or f30 18 inch wheels. Only 25,000 miles of driving though so may not be a representative sample.

I got the warranty and it has already paid for itself in the course of one year of driving NYC roads. Once for ALL FOUR wheels with small bends, and two times for two tires. Everyone's mileage will vary, but the roads around here are horrendous during the winter. And see my above post about how the city isn't responsible for pothole damage during most of the year. I would say just get it if you're DD'ing NYC. I have the roads I take memorized to the square foot it feels like, but during the winter months, potholes (large ones) can appear within hours where there previously weren't any. It's bonkers.
