Delivery time for cars with individual parts
I ordered a 320i back in January, modern line with leather seats option LCL8, black with oyster highlights. A couple of weeks ago the dealer got back to me, saying that the factory had informed him that this seat option is no longer available, and wanted me to pick other seats. There was some confusion about what seats options are now available, but finally I got it changed to LCOM, oyster seats but with black dash, doors etc.
Whilst making changes I asked him to add option XL3, individual steering wheel in merino leather, it had a minor cost of ~50 EUR. Yesterday I got a call saying that adding the individual steering wheel meant the production date would change from April to August, as apparently any car with any individual components are on a completely separate production schedule. Has anyone else experienced anything like that ? I obviously does not want to wait another 4 months just for a steering wheel, so I dropped it from the order, but I am still puzzled. thanks Jesper |

When I specced my car the merino wheel was £415 and so I am now furious that 2 weeks after delivery it has been reduced to £50. Personally, I would wait for the merino wheel because the standard wheel (Not on msports) is rhino hide and looks / feels horrid. The worst look / feel to a steering wheel rim I have had since my 1980 Cortina.

Dealer said it takes an extra 6 weeks for individual cars to arrive over non individual spec cars. Another reason why I went for coral red over opal white.

any chance he can order your car with the standard steering wheel and order the leather wheel as a kit part to be added later? that way you drive your car ASAP and get the new steering wheel added few months later.
I think they should offer you the wheel at the same price unfitted and fit it for you when it arrives. |

Also, I guess that the cost of buying the merino steering wheel as a spare is much more than the ~55 EUR option XL3 (BMW Individual leather steering wheel 'Merino') cost in combination with one of the lines (7S1, 7S1 or 7AC). |

Just order the F20 M Performance wheel, is a straight swap for ours!
BMW should be ashamed and embarrassed about the standard wheel they put into our cars. |
