I think it's a good idea.
Look at Audi, making it an A5, rather than a A4 coupe, makes it stand out more imo.
So a 4 series, despite it's unlucky sharm in the Asia, is an good idea imo.

+1
the cost of the M3 justified, because i never felt BMW took the easy way
every single component was improved, enhanced etc, we had special engines
so yes i was paying more than the 3 series
but it was justified in the engineering that went into the M3

now it seems the 1M is a sign of things to come
where it's a matter of which parts from which cars can we put in this thing to make it faster?
keep in mind what makes the 1M do well, are all the M3 parts that were used in it. if the next M3 is simple a tarted up 3 series, then where are you going to nick parts from

BMW is clearly threatened by Audi ... and with all do respect to BMW, they should be. And im 26 and owned 4 BMW's so im not going anywhere but i do love the addition of their a5/s5 and a7.

Anyway, Audi has their finger on the pulse of the industry and theyve made changes that are rational and subtle without ruining a model and brand thats been established as premier for decades

... i hope BMW knows what theyre doing. Just cause someone else made changes successfully doesnt mean you can just "copy and paste" and hope it works for you (BMW).

I like the current E92. It looks perfect. Please don't change it too much...

I had the Audi A5 3.2 quattro before I bought my M3
Trust me, BMW have nothing to worry about
The main reason you buy a BMW, contrary to the whole joy crap, is because it is the ultimate driving machine.
I hated the Audi so much, I sold it after only 6 months, to get the M3 after my first test drive.
I'd recommend BMW copy the interiors of Audis but that's about it.
The reason the A5 sells so well, is because it looks great.
During the time BMW was busy doing it's Bangle crap, Audi had an italian designer who was cranking out pretty shapes.
The engine, transmission, steering on the Audi aren't even in the same ball park as BMW
So why feel threatened by Audi?
Just cuz they make a model for every eventuality possible, doesn't mean we have to copy them.
You don't lead by copying/following.

If you compare the Audi models to the relevant BMW model
I don't think there is any model, that Audi beats BMW in
The closest match, would be the R8/M3, but most people would not consider them direct rivals.
A3>1 series?
A4>3 series (yeah right)
A6>5 series?

right, i agree with u

except not everyone out there buys a car cause they want the ultimate driving machine ... were the minority in the die-hard fanatics category and you bet thats why we love r beemers and like i said, i dont plan on changing

but im simply stating that audi's expanse was done successfully - and because bmw and audi's business models are different, bmw shouldnt think they can get away with copying them to the tee

guarantee there will be a model or two theyll discontinue in 5yrs because they struck out on that target audience

5 GT comes to mind
whatever hapened to car companies doing different things?
you had your porsches/bmws for people who enjoy driving
you had your toyotas etc for people who buy cars as transportation
you had your Mercedes for people who enjoy luxury
and you had your audis for people who couldn't decide between BMW and MB

now everyone is trying to be everything, to everyone
BMW now wants to cater to FWD, people who want an SAV but really wanted an M, people who want huge rear seats, heck even "The Ultimate Driving Machine" is being replaced with JOY. i mean how much more abstract can you get ? why not just call it "HAPPY!"
i pray they don't lose sight of their loyal car loving fans

As some may recall, a concept rendering for the F32 appeared about a year ago, looking at the latest rendering you can see a trend. If this is what's in the pipeline I do prefer the older version than the one recently posted.

If anyone passed up the best car in it's segment because of one digit, then they aren't a real car enthusiast.
Sounds like the M3 name will stick with the coupe.

I've seen a lot of the 4 door concept cars but has there been any new releases on picts of the new coupe other than this image and the few others?
I'll reserve final judgment for when it finally comes out but like many of you I may
be sticking with my e92 for awhile if some of these "renderings" hold true.

The adjustment is complete...

The BMW 3er Coupe and Cabrio will be known as the BMW 4er Coupe and Cabrio.

BMW's naming system is about to get a major overhaul as a flood of upcoming entry-level models have made things difficult.

Speaking at a recent press event, Sales and Marketing Director Ian Robertson said "There will be an evolution of naming across all brands." That's pretty vague, but the executive hinted "there are a lot numbers that can be exploited in the future."

MINI and Rolls-Royce will also be affected by the change and it is possible that both brands could eventually adopt an alphanumeric naming structure.
