N54-DME Warranty

Hi folks.

Ijust wanted to share my experience. I bought a 07 335i less than a month ago. It has 72xxx miles and obviously no warranty. I started adding mods like jb4, Active Autowerke Charge Pipe and BOV and DCI. 2 days ago, I was driving to work as usuall. On my way there I had to floor it to change lanes (Hawaii driving), and it suddenly started misfiring really bad. I let it idle for a little bit and decided to go back home. It went into limp mode and started giving codes and reducing power. I barelly made it home. After I troubleshooting it, I found that there was no injection in bank 2(4,5,6). checked coils and plugs but they appeared to be fine. I couldn't read codes because I don't have the cable for it.

After talking to my sales guy at the dealer, he told me to bring it in. They troubleshoot it and notified me a few hours later that the DME was bad. They immediately opened a PUMA case and are waiting for approval to replace the DME.

I obviously removed all my mods. Ill keep this updated as I get info.

In the US, the DME is automatically covered for 8 years / 80K miles as part of the Federal Emissions warranty (the same one that covers the catalytic converters).

DJ is correct. I had my DME replaced on my 07 under the emissions warranty.

My DME on my e92 335i wasn't covered so I paid out of pocket, I'm currently trying to find out why it wasn't covered since it was an 09 with 40K miles . . .

Let us know what you find out. When you call the dealership, reference page 39 of your warranty book, and if that doesn't work, contact BMW USA:

The following components and/or system are/is
covered under the Federal Emission Warranty for
a period of 8 years or 80,000 miles, whichever
occurs first.
CATALYTIC CONVERTER
ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (INCLUDING
ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM)
For assistance in determining coverage of the
specific components of the on-board diagnostic
system, please contact your BMW center.

If all else fails, contact the EPA and report a violation. That information is also in your warranty book:

You may obtain further information concerning
the emission warranties, or report violations of
warranty terms, by contacting the Director, Field
Operations and Support Division (6406J),
Environmental Protection Agency, 401 M Street,
SW, Washington, D.C. 20460.

Page 39 is also what I showed the dealership #2 that covered me. The first dealership had no knowledge of this, nor did I at that time, and quoted me up to $4k for the work.
