Given most if not all other tests have not been on slicks, something may break on slicks, and most drivers will drive most of the time not on slicks…

It may be more useful to test on a wider street tire, or perhaps a DR.

OTH, slicks would nix any deficient trap speed excuses. I'll be surprised if we see a trap speed on this car either way.

Would like to see a trap speed on this car.
We'll definitely be at the upcoming airstrip runs, as well as getting some times @ Moroso.

Can we order the tune now?
These upgrades you are doing, are you updating the software on the tune box?
If so can we update the software on the tune box when installed?

Holy fudgesicles!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I know that the ECU will throw a shadow tuner code. I've also heard that the ECU sends that code to the to some sort of central BMW server and the owner will receive a letter from BMW stating their warranty is voided.

Seriously? That sucks balls if it's true.... JC, you yanking our chain? Put up your letter I say!

I brought up the topic with Terry a while back on his forum, and this is the conversation we had:

TERRY: Due to the nature of how piggybacks work the DME is never aware of non-OEM boost or performance levels. But we're also not looking to be anyone's partner in warranty fraud. If you break something by adding a modification you should pay to repair it.

That said map 1 is very mild and I don't foresee any reliability concerns with it.

-------------------------

ME: I wasn't suggesting your goal is to hide modifications. But we all know that when a dealer knows of a mod, they too often take the easy route to blame the mod for any issues and deny warranty work, rather than truly diagnose the cause. That's why so many go on quoting the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, but in reality, that's not how things work. By not throwing codes, you're not giving them that excuse.

But as far as tuning boxes not throwing codes, I'm a bit puzzled by that statement, as I'm almost positive (since I've been around the N54 tuning forums for 6 years plus) that they did, like the codes 2AAF (Fuel Pump Plausibility) and 2D25 (Mass Air Flow Excessive - External Tuning Box Detected), that were thrown, for which so many would buy the Bavarian Technic Cable Tool that you sell. It even says in its description on your website "Functions include reading/deleting extended codes, check engine light reset, tuner detection codes..."

So how come you say that piggys don't throw codes, or that you're not interested in detecting them now?

---------------------------

TERRY: I've not come across any codes with the S55. The JB4 includes the ability to read/delete codes when installed as Stage2. Let me know if you find any.

I'm totally kidding. I haven't seen a single code that would suggest anything is awry. Obviously I'm not BMWNA, but I can at least see in the logs that nothing looks crazy and the ECU is only seeing the boost that it should be. I'm not really concerned tbh. Plenty of n54 guys over 600whp on stock blocks with no issues.

Lol. BMW is actually an authorized dealer (dinan) in this game so I know you're kidding right?

Can't wait to see real world numbers on these beasts.

Impressive power out of a 3.0L, now if only that peak power could plateau for a bit instead of gradually dropping off. Could this be done through a different map? For drivability, it might be worthwhile to sacrifice the peak numbers for a more progressive powerband.

GJ!
