Do you let your wife drive your BMW?

I'm trying to work up the courage to let her take it out but....

She's used to driving an SUV day to day and not familiar with the car at all. I park far away, she doesn't. She's not careful with the long fingernails, rings, etc. She has tons of lotion on her hands that gets everything greasy, and on and on....

But, I feel embarrassed when she tells people I don't let her drive it. What to do?

2008 Jet Black 335i owner.

Dude, its your wife. If you don't trust her with your car, then you have bigger issues in your life.

Remember, ITS ONLY A CAR. Don't get sucked into the world most everyone else on this forum is already living in where your car is the only thing in life that matters.

If it's not lowered, then there is no reason to say no....

Updated question (along the same lines):

What about if it's a lowered car with a body kit...i'm talking real lloooowwww, and the fact that she may not be aware of potholes, parking curbs, dips, etc.

Just because she is his wife doesn't mean he should trust her at everything! There are plenty of things that I don't trust my wife to do, mostly mechanical related stuff. Being married means you know her quite well, and you know that what is important to you, and what you pay attention to, isn't necessarily what she pays attention to.

How many times have you gotten in "her" car and asked, "What's that sound? It doesn't sound right" and she says, "Oh that? I don't know, it just started happening a few weeks ago, but I keep forgetting to mention it." Many years ago when my wife and I were just dating (in college), she picked me up in her truck one day. As we came to stop, I asked "what's that horrible grinding noise?" Her response was similar to the above. Turned out her brake pads were so worn out that they were gouging a slot into the rotors! Cost her a couple hundred dollars to get the damage repaired.

And you are right, it is only a car, but one that is easier to damage by inattentive driving than an SUV. And since that inattentive driving can cause damage that requires money to fix, shouldn't one take that into consideration when deciding who can drive it? Just because she is your wife doesn't mean she'll take good care of things. But we love them anyway!

Here we go again.....

imho if you have to prove your love by giving a significant other free reign to everything, it's not a good relationship. The last time a ridiculous question like this was asked I seem to remember it getting into which women have the "bestest" butts and it lead to pics of butts in the thread, and that somehow equated to allowing the female to drive the male's vehicle. Honestly, letting a female drive one's BMW proves and shows nothing. When we closely examine the who gets what BS in a relationship, I can guarantee that most of the time women get all the material items, starting with the engagement ring. There is nothing wrong with not letting a wife drive the BMW, and there's nothing wrong with letting her. It's up to the guy who parted with 50k to decide.

My last g/f was going to buy me a E90 330i, I told her no way. Lucky she didn't because we broke up only 1 mo. after she said that. I like the thought that a woman could and would buy something that expensive for me, but when I think about it, there are serious strings attached, such as giving her free reign on housing decisions, etc. It's not worth it to me....my .02.

Amen, Last time I let a girl drive my car she hit a road cone on the freeway. (she was dumb as a bag of rocks) She apologized but I still had to pay for a new bumper.

From now on the girl would have to be a 8 or above to drive my car. They are all whores except our mothers.

Here we go again....what age group are you that posts these questions?
-20 and prematurely married and in college?

For all I know, its just a car and there are plenty more on the factory lines. Besides, If you have this kind of trust issues, get a divorce and find someone you trust, even with your car.

If you don't let your mechanic touch your penis, you shouldn't let your wife touch your car.

You can love someone and trust them but that doesn't prevent them from messing up your car.

all very good, valid points.
my wife is a pretty careful driver, i do not worry that much about her driving it...

BUT, she will not "park" the car like i do. if there is not a very safe spot away from other car doors, i will glady park 30 - 50 yards further so some moron will not ding my doors!! my wife would never do that.....

therefore she has never taken my car out without me.
