Warming up the M

Hey guys,

I was just thinking the other day about how the manual suggests warming up the car by driving and not to let it sit at idle to warm up. Does anyone know or have any good theories as to why this is? I do it, but I'm just curious as to the actual mechanical reason why.

My guess is that it has something to do with getting the oil warmed up faster.

It is so that the gunk doesn't build up in the engine. That's how carbon deposits are made.
