Thumbs down BMWNA ceases sales of all BMW Euro Parts

Reported on BIMMERPOST HOMEPAGE.

As if it wasn't already difficult enough to source BMW euro-market only parts for our BMWs, it has just become even harder as BMWNA has now apparently stopped all sales of BMW European parts through its dealers in the US. Previously, generally, if you could provide a BMW parts department with an european market part number, they could order it for you. That will no longer be the case and we will all have to look to 3rd party suppliers or independent sellers for our european-only BMW parts going forward

Why the change in policy? According to the source Bimmerfile, another automaker had an issue with some European parts failing on cars in the US and BMW NA’s legal department made the move to quash all sales of non-US parts at US dealers.

Americans love suing for any and everything. It's smart for BMW to cover it's ass and avoid that.

This site is so international, that I think it wont be a issue getting parts from EU to US.

But it´s the amecian legal system that makes these things happen.

i'm from ukraine and have a nice source of parts by wholesale prices. i do ship a lot of items from usa on a daily basis and have the ability to ship them back (any of them). so if it's really needed, i will be glad to provide any parts you require by normal prices.

Audi and VW realized this LOOONG time ago. It created a fantastic opportunity for companies to supply european parts for VAG cars in USA.

Anything from bumpers, door rub strips, euroswitches, head units, headlights, suspension components that is Euro specific is a hot-selling product in the North American market.

Vendors and forums sponsors should be jumping in joy because now they have a market niche to fill with products that are will no longer be available in the NA market!

It is of always "another automaker" we are being protected against. The next step of BMW NA and BMW Canada can be easily predicted: warranty on cars on which a non-American BMW parts have been or are installed shall be denied.

lawyers can be bad but this change would only be directed by lawyers if people in the US that bought the Euro parts filed a lawsuit - lawsuits cause changes in policy

This has been the case for years with OEM CSL parts, BMW NA will reject the order and tell the dealer in the U.S tell the customer the part is not available. We have a route and connection with a Germany affiliate to obtain OEM CSL parts, however after freight charges it comes very expensive.
