Non Sport/M-Sport 320i/328i heat issues on track?

Anyone take their non Sport/M-Sport 320i or 328i on hot track days and experience problems with heat?

I'm considering a 320i and just getting a JB4 tune, but the lack of oil coolers on the non Sport/M-Sport cars worries me for track days. I usually do a few a year, usually on hotter summer days.

The LA Chapter of BMW CCA LA has had a bunch of non m-sport cars at autocross and hpde events. Personally I have been to a few in 100+ heat. So far we have not seen any 320i/328i with overheating issues.

That's reassuring, much easier to justify a 320i than a 328i with a bunch of packages

Is your car a Sport or M-Sport car?

Yes when i had the 328i oil guage didnt even budge (guessing minimal changes in actuality). Tracked and autocrossed it plenty of times. No issues.

Mocos is a sport. And he has driver mod software.

Thats the first thing you should do. Get seat time and upgraded "street" tires.

Was your car a Sport or M-Sport model as well?

I'm probably being overly paranoid about overheating issues on a car I don't even have yet, it's just knowing that the Sport model gets an extra radiator, and the M-Sport gets 2 extra makes me think that BMW knows something about overheating in testing.

I agree with you, I'm all about seat time and getting proper tires on my track car . I spend more than my fair share of time autocrossing and at track days. Getting a 3 series is me preempting a need for functional back seats (have you seen the "back seat" of a BRZ?).

It was in a baseline model. I know its about the driver but i had no problem competing against 335i in autocross and on the track. No heating issues whatsoever. Brakes and tires though are different stories lol

I really wouldn't worry about it personally. From my experience the F30 is a great track weapon right out of the box. Most BMW's are fine - the overheating issues were primarily with the N54 equipped cars. I have run a wide variety of different BMW's on the track, ranging from e36 m3's, my x3 (yes the SUV...), a few e90's, e46's...pretty much all of them. The only car that ever had issues on the track was my e92 335i. And those cars almost always have issues on the track, even with the oil cooler.

Just go out and enjoy your new car!

With my M performance setup all around, I had the usual n55 overheat issue.

It can happen if you take your car to the extremes for sure....I did an hpde at limerock in the fall!

I found the heat issue with 328 xdrive is brakes not engine oil temperature.
