80% of 1 Series owners think car is FWD

So where are all you 1addicts?

Quote:
When asked whether the announced introduction of front-drive BMW models would confuse customers of a rear-drive-only brand, Reithofer said that 80 percent of 1 Series owners already thought their car was front-drive. He added that the stat was "quite a surprise" to BMW, but did not express concern. Instead, the lack of consumer interest means implementing front-drive vehicles could come easier to the brand.

Yeah, that is to be expected because they sell box shaped 1 series cars with 4 cylinders in Europe.

I'm not surprised at all. A few weeks ago I took a trip up to Big Bear Mt. during snowy conditions. Everyone had to stop and install chains. Some guy in a 135 just finished installing chains on his front wheels when I flagged him down to break the news. Sad...very sad.

You should have let him go on his merry way then watch his face when he can't understand how his car not going anywhere in the snow even with his chains on.

le sighh...

To be fair, I bet the stats would be just as shocking for the 3 series as well. We all know the majority of BMW buyers bought their car simply for the image, looks, and the perception of an enthusiast's vehicle (without actually knowing why).

This all sounds like BMW corporate spin to justify pushing FWD shit onto their customers.

That seems odd. What was Toyota originally besides a maker of cheap econoboxes? In their case they've parlayed humble beginnings into dominance and now arrogance. I would imagine BMW wants to remain a smaller size, independant maker, but to everyone's point, their efforts to sell cars has led to them expanding their offerings into all sorts of niches and it's only a matter of time before you see a FWD BMW.
In business, a reputation is nothing more than a marketing tool.
