N55 JB4 Stage 2 ISO water pump staying on fix

Hey guys, I just posted this on another forum:

After almost 7 flawless months of running the ISO software on my N55 I experienced the dreaded water pump issue. I was stranded 3 separate times over a few days due to a dead battery. At first I thought it was just a fluke but quickly realized it was the running water pump that was draining the battery.

I exchanged many emails with Terry and Jon regarding the bug. I had a hard time believing it was random as I've run the ISO for so long without issue. The only change to my setup was the addition of my Oil Catch Can a month earlier. Terry got back to me and informed me he was working on the issue and devised the work around for a switched power connection. Terry forwarded me the work around instruction, so off to the garage I headed tools in hand.

Well low and behold, with the hood up, side cutters in hand, the pump starts to run. I was able to turn the pump on and off by unplugging and plugging the blue wired solenoid connection (nothing new). However I was also able to turn the pump on and off by re-connecting the heater wire to the PCV assembly (removed with OCC installation). I was able to do this many times as seen in the video:

http://youtu.be/fxulhhNM3Q4

I've now gone 3 days without the water pump staying on. I mentioned this to a few other members and all seems to be working well for everyone. I have no idea as to how hot the heater element inside the PCV assembly runs so I've zip tied it securely free from contact to another hose. Maybe the common denominator between N55's with the pump issue and N55's without is the fact that the heater wire to the PCV assembly is disconnected.

I hope this works for anyone with the pump issue like it's currently working for me!

**Update** Over a year later, Still running perfect, no drained battery!

So knowing this, is installing the occ still worth it? I didn't think oil in the air supply was as much an issue on the n55 as it is on n54.

Im currently facing the same issue with my F13 640i, I dont have an oil catch can installed. I tried alternating the power source and it didnt work for me. Do you have an idea why is this happening? Is it because of the "iso" option selected under the settings tab on the jb interface? And lastly, is it the heater wire problem?

I finally converted my JB4 to ISO a little over a week ago. I went out last night 3 hours after I got home from work to upgrade to ISO 5.1 and my battery was dead.

I do not have any other mods besides the JB4! I resoldered the diode and flashed back to non-ISO.

It wasn't JB4 related just a coincidence. Battery was recharged and a couple days later (after going back to non-ISO) it died again. Another charge and a couple days later dead, bad cell. Battery was replaced.

I went back to ISO 5.1 and haven't had any problems.

same issue

So i have the same issue and this solution works for me. but the question is, is this safe? Will the pump run normally when it actually needs to run to cool the turbo down? I might be wrong about the use of this sensor, but when I installed the OCC, I thought it was very odd to leave that cable just hanging. Now this happens. So is it safe to just plug it to an empty heater hose sensor?? Just worried bout the turbo nos cooling down properly when it actually needs to be cooled down. any help is appreciated.

It is electronic so it runs off off a thermostat and when the car is running. I also believe it is variable based on the jump in temp. I was running it for half a year with no issues. Set JB4 to read your coolant temp and keep an eye on it if you are that worried.
