Shift-S3ctor 5 - 1/2 Mile Event [120+ Photos]

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Shift Sector 5 hit off with a blast!

Coalinga, CA, April 19, 2014: EAS/ESS (and BIMMERPOST) is back to sponsor Shift S3ctor's 5th event at Coalinga Municipal Airport. 1/2 mile, side by side racing event and trap speed competition make for a grueling match between horsepower, vehicle configuration and driver skill.

This being EAS's 2nd time competing, we had a bit of experience from last year's event in October in the race for achieving even higher trap times. The car had to follow the same rules: it must be be driven to and from the event and retain street form (only backseat was removed). No trailer queens. With last year's trap speeds in the mid 150s, our goal was set.

Plenty of competition was present from 1000+hp GTRs, 997s, GT40s, TT Gallardos, you name it. Even a Fiat 500 came to join the fun. Gusty headwinds of about 40+ MPH were coming in mid-afternoon.

Then came the moment we've been waiting for:

Then about mid-afternoon, our 2011 ESS VT2-625 M3 was able to pull a 162.2206 MPH time, already beating our best from last year. With DLSJ5's VT3-750 cracking a 174.12 MPH trap, a couple of records were set from ESS Supercharged M3s at the same event.

Special thanks to the Shift S3ctor guys for putting on the event, ESS Tuning, Akrapovic. EAS staff for their hard work on photos/setup and Craig, DLSJ5, Longboarder, xtyper for being just fun guys to hang around.

Anyway, enjoy pics of the event - can't wait until SS6.

Enjoy!

Great pics Tom, very well done!

The only pic you posted of my car, is of me cheating by spraying water on the intercooler and placing ice on top of the manifold.

Thanks for posting all the pics Tom. Had a blast hanging out with you, Steve and the crew. You guys are a great bunch and your hospitality is second to none.

As luck would have it, the E63 posted a best of trap of 164mph on Sunday, so you'll have to clean your air filters before the next event to take back the lead.

From 0-120 I'm not sure there was a car there, other than the 190+ Mph trapping cars that would leave him in that range. If he had bigger turbo's, he'd trapped well into the 170's, amazing car, great work Adam!

When we went from a dig, even with him giving me a head start, he flew by me at 60mph or so, it took forever for me to reel him in, I'm not sure if I even did before the cones.

Wait until you see the in-car vids. I've got two camera angles on that finish.

The PY E46M3 belongs to one of our photographers, there's some more on our flickr feed here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/europe...57632816748672

How wide are the kosei rims on the EAS car, and how did the set up do at the event? I never have seen 17's on the E9x M3.

I think I do have vids of that car; pretty sure I came across them when searching for Drew's runs last night. I'll see if I can go through some of them tonight and get them posted.

Koseis are only 8.5" max width, we definitely need a bit more.
