Geez, the built up the 320i, I test drove it and it sucks. It's not an enthusiast car, that's a car you buy your kid after they graduate high school. The base-model F30 328i I had when my E90 was getting its cable replaced was much better and firmer on the road.

Wow! I know they were going up in value but didn't know they have gone up so much in the last few years.

I was lucky 7 years ago to find a completely stock beautiful alpine white/cardinal red M3. I didn't even think twice and bought it. Over the last 7 years, I have made quite a few tasteful mods but have kept the heart and soul of E30 M3's...the S14 motor.

I had almost bought one a few years ago, but my after-drive impression was "I'd like to be outside of the car than inside, simply because it looks gorgeous" the drive was terrible.

wow that thing is super nice, and so clean. I still love the e30. As a kid growing up it was one of the coolest cars around in Europe.

So the e30 m3 handles better than an e92 m3? Sorry, I don't buy it.

I purchased an e30M3 in 1993. I had my original pristine 40k mile street 91 model for a decade and then sold it in favor of a track rat when it was at 160k miles. I had my 88 track machine for another six years until I went to drive the 1M in Germany and my e30m3 was in the midst of a motor rebuild. I parted my car for 18k and jumped to the 1M, which BMW " finally got right" according to one of the bozos on a couch.

I watched the e36, e46, and the e90 come out and none of them made me want to get rid of my e30M3. I have driven all four on track and the e30m3 is simply sublime while the other cars vary from great to awesome.

I am absolutely thrilled with the 1M, and looking forward to the M2. I don't believe that BMWs best days are in the past.

That said, while an e30 m3 can be daily driven, it's much better suited as a weekend tourer and canyon. carver. Fans of the bmw six cylinder would Leave it in the garage and take a plebeian e36 or e46 or e90 instead. But then again, those same "BMW fans" don't even know that BMW has ever made fantastic four cylinder motors.

The e30 m3 is absolutely not overhyped. It's absolute magic.

For me, the E39 M5 was the animal. It will be the next to spike unreasonably in value. Its the car that got me into BMWs in the first place.

I can guarantee it will never go lower than $14k used. It's at its bottom end right now, but it'll get picked up more and more.

I LOVE that these guys pointed out how journalists ruined the car scene. They tip the scales with the words they choose, but some don't even realize it. Some journalists (among other who already have) will begin to question "Why does the sport sedan have to be so un-responsive? Maybe we can't afford multiple cars.....lets combine" and they'll shift back to the E39 M5.

Its a cycle that repeats itself in the auto industry and its quite sad to watch over and over and over as there are lots miniature periods of dull garbage. Sort of glad to say though that I believe we're on a dawn of a new power era as everyone is getting fed up with the econo-boxes cars have become.

Why not? both had MacPherson struts and E30 M3 is lighter. E30 M3 body is also very stiff not like regular E30.

Truest words ever spoken. I can't even begin to describe how angry I get when I try to discuss handling with someone and they keep resorting to lap times and skid pad G forces. Handling has nothing to do with how fast a car goes through turns and everything to do with how it feels in your hands and responds to your inputs. When I was in high school I had an E36 and my mom had a Mercedes CLK with pretty sticky tires, that CLK would go so much more quickly through the twisty roads around my house but its handling was terrible. The steering wheel didn't even feel connected to the tires, the car would bounce and jiggle around any time it hit a bump, body roll was enough to make you laugh, etc.

The trouble with driving an E30 M3 today and trying to judge it is many of them are in absolutely shitty condition. I've never driven the E30 M3, but the few E30s I've driven were all beat to hell and back and those ones obviously sucked so I hope someday someone presents me with the opportunity to drive one in mint condition.

@majdnoon - it's funny you should quote Clarkson, because I remember him saying that the e92 m3 is "almost perfect." I DON'T remember him comparing it to an e30 m3.

I'm not out to bash the e30. I haven't driven one, and I'm sure it's great. I was posting in response to a previous post from a member who has apparently owned both, and who claims that the only thing better about the e92 m3 is the engine. With all due respect, I find that ridiculous.

I would not because BMW made better models that came after the E30 M 3. I got nothing against collectors. But as driver car for me, I already own one of those better models.
Depends on the price. When they were in the teens, gladly. Low 20s, sure, still love them. High 20s, 30s, 40s? Can't say that I would.

So lucky. White on red E30 M3, it doesn't get much better than that!

Doubtful on the E39 M5. BMW made way more than those compared to the E30 M3. Sure, those with under 40k miles will go for a premium. But plenty of them can be had in the teens. Heck I got a friend selling his for $13.5 right now with 130k miles.

If I didn't own my E92 M3, or could only have 1 single car, the E39 M5 would be it. My good friend has one and it's still such a looker. I saw an Imola Red E39 M5 going the opposite way last week, nearly snapped my neck
