... and south africa aand china. they do make some valid point but take the 335i for example. compare the e92 to the previous generation s4 and it easily kills it. the old m3 took on the s4 without any trouble and the new 335i will take on an m3 (for sake of argument lets not get in to the e46 m3 vs e92 335i)

the new 2010 s4 just barely beats the previous generation 335i so i still think the 3 is pretty much a segment killer. though mind you id take a 2010 s4 over the 07/08 335i any day. put the 335is and refresh in to there and we are right back where we started.

i dont think its becoming a gm but bmw does need to slow down a little with all the new models

I want that 8 minutes back too. Everyone has the right to their opinion, but these guys certainly don't share the opinion of the majority of the auto press. 3-Series not a segment leader? Read Car and Driver lately?

I'm really tired of hearing and reading, "It is the answer to a question no one is asking." The most successful companies on this planet are on the bleeding edge of development; providing solutions to problems consumers didn't know they had. Think Microsoft, Apple, etc. Love 'em or hate 'em, they do well for themselves because of innovation.

So, that quote just makes me think the person stating it lives in a bubble. If it isn't what we always had, we don't need it because we've always done in that way.

BMW the new GM?

FastLaneDaily discusses where BMW is heading with all its new models and whether you would rather buy an old BMW or a new one. They bring up some interesting points...

EDIT: repost, someone put this in the 3 series forum already, sorry

Yeah, I really don't know what this guy's on about. BMW has remained a "segment killer" to the present day, what with the E90 3 and E60 5 series dominating pretty much every single comparison since their inception, except for the most recent ones.

And for me personally- well I test drove the competition before buying my 335d, everything from Audi to Mercedes to Infiniti to Lexus, and not a single one came within miles of the 335d's excellence. So yeah, I'd argue BMW is very much still a segment leader.

i dont think that BMW is screwing up at all. i think the main problem is simple. BMW has been segment a leader for so long, that now other brands are starting to wake up and realize what they've been doing wrong all this time.

Audi has been chasing BMW for the longest time, trying to beat the 3. finally after almost 20 years they've got something to make BMW think, "OK, we gotta step our game up." Give the S4 its 15minutes of fame. it'll be an afterthought once more 335is's hit the roads.

The problem with GM is that they had so many brands, and inside those brands they had X amount of models for each. BMW is still one brand, with different models within. GM murdered Saab, but look at what BMW is doing for the MINI and Rolls Royce brands.

BMW has strayed away from its roots quite a bit in the past few years but they are nowhere near the kind of catastrophe that GM was. These guys can say what they want, but we will never see BMWs form of innovative thinking ever in an american brand, and that you can take to the bank.

That solely depends on the purpose in which it's being used for.

No way I would DD an e30 m3.

I agree with almost everything those guys said. This current concept of make a car for every niche that nobody has thought of it ridiculous. Its always failed...except with the 1 series

Ohh and BMW was better of with Bangle...you heard it there.
