19" Wheel Tyre Size
Hi guys,
Sorry, I tried searching and I'm either an idiot or I can't work out the right search term. I've been out to look at a 2007 E92 335i today and it's great, except it needs a service soon and the rear tyres are close to the limit. It's got Bridgestone RFTs on it at the moment and it's got the 19" wheels - these I believe: http://felgenkatalog.auto-treff.com/2250.htm I didn't think to check the tyre sizes while I was stood next to the car (I know, I know) but I wondered if anyone could fill me in on what the sizes are so I can work out how much it's going to cost me to replace them in a couple of months? I'm under the impression from that site that the front is 225/35R19 and the rear 255/30R19 and I'm waiting to hear back from the owner, but I'd appreciate any advice from you guys? I see a few people recommend Falken FK452s as well, which I know from experience are usually good tyres, or rather excellent tyres for the price. Personally I tend to run Goodyear F1 Asymmetric on my current car but they tend to cost half as much as the Falkens again. Thanks guys, and again, sorry if I've missed the data in an obvious place |

There are often part worn Bridgestone Runflats for sale for decent prices, might be an option if you want to stick to the runflats.

To be honest, I wouldn't really be bothered either way. I gather the RFTs are troublesome to replace and give a stiffer and less comfortable ride, but without a spare I suppose it would be nice to know that I could still limp back somewhere so get a puncture sorted. Personally I think I'd rather just carry some gunk to put in it if there was a puncture. Probably not the best place to go in to it, but if anyone has any opinion either way then I'm always happy to hear it. I've never run RFTs myself before so don't have any actual experience of them

This would have to give you a bargaining chip on the price, especially if a service is due as well (what items does the i-Drive say?). I moved from Bridgestone RFT's to Conti 5P's and I'm pleased with them, much better than the Bridgestone's I think. Mike. |

The car was beautiful, thanks Mike. Was a little dirty at the time, but can't really fault the guy for that. It wasn't heavily dirty, just every-day dirty, if you know what I mean? I'd only told him the night before that I'd pop down so he didn't have the opportunity to get it cleaned.
The car has every factory fitted bell and whistle available, including the flashy lighting pack thingymabob. It's grey, when I wanted a black or white, but it ticks EVERY other box for me spec wise and in all honesty I do like the grey, just not as much as the black or white. The interior was spot on too, with the black leather, which is much more to my taste than the cream or red, for example. Service wise he did show me what it needs on the iDrive but in all honesty (and I hold my hands up and admit I'm an idiot here) I don't recall what everything was. It's coming up on 60k miles though and a workmate who used to work for Sytners has suggested that this is a big service? I was given the impression from the seller that it's not a major one upcoming (just the usual oil + filters + check). I should really check up on what is due at what service. He also said that he'd either put it through the service or he'd knock of the value of said service if the buyer was prepared to service it themselves, so that's a good sign. He's also convinced that there's 4/5 months left in the rear tyres but I reckon there's only 2mm max to the wear indicators, which is why I'm looking at tyre prices now. I don't want to get lumbered with a £700 bill for a pair of new rear RFTs only a couple of months in to ownership. My friend has just replaced his rear RFTs on 18s (a 1 series of some type) and it's set him back £440 for a pair. This is where differences in running costs creep in between the BMW and the SEAT. I pay about £120 a corner for 225/40R18 F1 Asymmetrics on the Leon, and it appears that I'll be paying at least twice that for the 255/30R19 needed for the rears in an equivalent tyre and clearly a lot more for RFTs. I've got my car up on Piston Heads at the moment and I'll probably put it on Autotrader this week too. So far people are offering to swap for a 1992 turbo MX5, a 1996 Impreza WRX and a remapped mk4 Golf TDI. I don't know on what planet anyone would think that any of these are suitable swaps from a 2003 Cupra R in great condition, especially when I'm looking to upgrade, not downgrade, but hey. Can't blame them for trying Oh, by the way, my wife is my biggest hurdle at the moment. At the moment we run two mk1 Leons. My Cupra R and her 1.4S. The idea is that we get one cheap run-around (the 1.4 isn't expensive, to be fair, but we've had it from new in 2005) for the wife as she'll do more miles than me, and a nice big car for us to go places as a family and for me to drive around when I need to go somewhere. Because it's me, the wife and our two-year-old son, she's worried about the whole 2-door thing and doesn't like the idea of our son being trapped in the back in the event of an accident. I can kinda see where she's coming from, but he'll be in the car so rarely that it seems barely worth thinking about. I need to convince her though |

That is unfortunately how it's looking kaishang, yeah, which is gutting because the saloons just don't do it for me. I don't feel like paying all that extra for one for the hell of it

Get rid of the run-flats! Best money I ever spent this year, am now running new rims with Falken 'staggered' set-up, this has totally changed the handling and ride!

Antnee - The coupe is fine ( well adequate) for families, access to the rear is easy, 2 adults fit in the back just fine. There is no such thing as a 'big service' - only when fate conspires to bring all the individual items together at the same time. Whats your budget and how long have you been looking?
