20inch Wheels Xdrive

Anyone running 20inch wheels that have Xdrive?
I just ordered Velgen VMB5 for an awesome price from Leo, at VibeMotorsports
Leo was more then helpful as I was skeptical about ordering 20s rather then 19s

Wheels:
Velgen VMB5
Flat Grey
Front: 20x9
Rear: 20x10.5
Front Tires: 245/35/20
Rear Tires: 275/30/20

I went with the ExtremeContact DWS (DWS for Dry, Wet & Snow) Continental's Ultra High Performance All-Season
I already received the tires and they are a lot beefier then I expected. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything fits properly with no rubbing.

The only place I could find tires was Tirerack.com. I am from pittsburgh, so not only do local shops not even want to order these tires, they don't want to mount them either. Assuming I am going to have to take it to my local BMW dealer and have them mount them. Which I'm sure will not be cheap. I plan on having an alignment done at that time as well. Pictures by next Friday.

Velgen is closed this week (due to Vegas Car show) so I won't receive my wheels until mid next week. (Wednesday Hopefully) I will be sure to post Pictures ASAP.

Would love to see some f30s on 20inch Wheels.

I went with 235/35R20 for the fronts to match the diameter of the rear 275/30R20.

Not sure of the wheel specs and if you plan on being lowered to know if you'll have any rubbing.

As long as you go with a offset of 35 on the front and 45 on the rear, you will have zero issues with rubbing. Here is mine lowered on KW V2s with the same specs mentioned with same tires you mentioned and no rubbing.

I am preparing to run those tires through a pittsburgh winter. How did yours hold up? They look pretty beefy I am hoping I can get some decent life out of them. Love your car btw

Thanks. I would probably advise against it and use your stock wheels with winter tires. I ran all seasons last year and it was OK. Just put on snow tires on my stock wheels yesterday because it has been snowing a bit already and wow what a difference. My first year ever having snow tires and don't think I would ever do without ever again.

275*.3=82.5
245*.35=85.75
delta = 3.25
%diff=3.9

4% is a bit high for xdrive. max should be 2% difference between front and rear otherwise you risk damage

My 420d xdrive has been experiencing some juddering issues at low speeds, almost as if it is not fuelling correctly. It has just been recalled for work on egr and oil cooler as it is under warranty. However been reading on threads that it can also be the xdrive system if overall wheel diameter isn’t correct, more than a 2% difference. I bought it with aftermarket 20 replicas on.
Current tyres are
225/35/20
275/30/20

How do I calculate the difference between diameter or can you guys recommend tyre sizes? Car has only 10k on clock so dnt Wana be breaking the xdrive 🤦🏼*♂️

My 435i Xdrive currently spots the BMW original Styling 660 wheels and I have had these for over 3 years now. ZERO issues and nothing that could or would make me believe there was a problem with the X-Drive system or with drivability in general.

Tyre sizes I am running are what BMW factory M sport package orginally features with the only difference being the slightly lower aspect ratios (down to 35 and to 30 respectively) due to the fact that they are 20".

FRONT - 225/35/20 ET 36
REAR - 255/30/20 ET 47

In winter I have been driving on the original M442 wheels with 19 tyres in original factory setup. Though not generally recommended as a setup for the winter, regardless of XDrive model or not, car has behaved very well even under the harshest snow and icy conditions.

I am no expert on this subject but problems could be caused by the 275 REAR setup. If you calculate it for example here:

https://www.tire-size-calculator.info/

Simply take a 255 tyre setup (original) and compare it to your current setup (for REAR) and you will notice that the difference in ROLLING CIRCUMFERENCE is PLUS 1.8% which is quite a variance and definitely too much on an XDrive car especially. From what I have read on forums in general the tolerance in rolling circumference sits at about 1% and in your case it's almost double.
Of course there may be plenty of good experiences with such setups on any 4series model (XDrive and non) but it is far from recommended and is known to potentially cause problems to the transfer case.

What about a setup like this
235/35/20
275/30/20
Would give 83.2 inch rolling diameter on both axle however would be different tyre brands as I would just change the fronts and can’t get same brand as rears in 235
Or
245/35/20
275/30/20
Would give 84 on front and 83.2 on rear rolling diameter a difference of -1%, but I can get the same tyre make in a 245 as 275 rears
Currently have
225/35/20
275/30/20
Gives front axle 82.3 and rear 83.2 difference of +1.1%

Just because I like the wider rears As protects the rim edge, where as the front rim edge is currently not protected with 225 and damaged easy due to curbs etc.

Or could it be my egr still playing up?

Indeed 235/275 is going to be the closest to 0% difference, which makes it a desirable option, especially when it comes to the Xdrive system.

Other options which could work well are:

FRONT - 235/35/20
REAR - 265/30/20

Especially if you have rear wheels wider than the factory, ones (say 9 or 9.5J or even a 10J) with the appropriate ET, the car can look very slick and there is no need to go for 275 rear – at least from many examples I have seen. But I understand you already have 275 and would like to keep them also for the reasons you specified.

AND, if you want to go to a more extreme path, the following combo could also be an option:

9J + 10.5J wheel with 245/30 front and 285/25 rear.

That would be a difference of something like -0.7% and also the max I believe you can drive on the rear axle in terms of size without having to make changes to the wheel wells or other stuff.
