Would it be of any use (or even possible) to install an LSD in a 335 featuring X drive?

hi guys the open differential that we have on 335i is it the same as on 330i or 325i? in e 90 bodies? i know that bmw changed to welded dif on 335, could one source diff from 330 or 325 2006 to be used in 335i from 2008?

No, unfortunately the differentials are totally incompatible. BMW have even changed the physical size of the diff housing (so for instance SerJames' 335i E93 has a physically smaller diff housing than the on my 335i E92).

It is not just the 335i that has gone to a welded style diff - all new E9x are using the same type of manufacture for the crown wheel, regardless of whether it's a 335 or 330i.

It's almost as if BMW doesn't want owners to put in what they should have in the first place.

Just thought I'd mention that my Auto has a bolted Diff which is great news, the quaife from Birds is being slotted in today.

there's lots of work being done at the same time, so it might be hard to isolate, but I'll let you know best I can when it's done.

It's handy really beacause the exhaust has to come off to get to the diff which gives me access to the downpipes, turbos etc etc

Does anyone know if I can get the diff fitted at anywhere other than birds. He is as far south as I am north. I can't justify driving hundreds of miles. Glasgow would be cool

he's the only authorised dealer, but any competent mechanic with BMW experience could fit the kit.

Call him - that's how he supplies hong kong, Austrailia, US etc. He just ships the kit out.

Remember to tell him James from e90post sent you as there's a discount scheme we have organised I think it's 5 to 10% which a fair whack. probably your postage !

I actually can't remember what he quoted G33, it's gonna be pricey for me I imagine because of all the extra bits being done but I know the car hasn't been worked on for more than a day and a half, so I'm not paying for days and days !

i got mine to birds for 10am just for the LSD job and i was leaving by 3pm , so it doesnt take that long, but its not a straight forward or easy job with newer e92s unfortunately.

Dear E92Fan, Thank you for the write up! I appreciate that, but Im merely confused after reading this thread and 100 other Quaife threads.

Do you have the specification for the how much power can the Quaife during accel out of the corner?

What would be the Lock? Awith the quaife, does it mean that the transfered movement would be less friction then a clutch type???

As you can see, Im quite confused. I didnt really mean to barge into your thread but I am in the market for an LSD and really wanted to get this straightened out before I actually finalize my decision for an Limited Slip

Thanks for all your help

Jon

Quaife LSD Mod

Hey Guys,

I'm seriously thinking about getting a Quaife LSd installed and wanted to know what you all thought of it.
I want one for better dead stop acceleration and cornering exits, I am aware this is what it says on the tin, but wanted to know how it affects the BMW warranty , how much it costs, does it increase fuel consumtion and lastly should i bother to lower the car before or after for better traction control.

Cheers,

ZK1

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ife+lsd+review

Here's the review I wrote of the Quaife LSD, which I had installed in June 2007. Have done over 20k miles with the diff installed, never had a problem, never had an issue with fuel consumption, and never once had a problem at my BMW service centre (who know I have a diff, and love it!)

Call Kevin Bird for the cost of the Quaife - say you're off the E90post forum and that Tony sent you - he'll sort you out a good deal. Birds Auto - 01753 657441. They're based very near Heathrow, so close to London
