The Michael Jordan Tribute Thread

It had to be done... he was too good to not have his own thread. Michael is being inducted into the HOF tonight (if you haven't already heard) and a tribute thread is in order.

Best player ever?

Dude you can't say Jordan was the best player ever. He was the best player in his era, no one can be name the best player ever because they never played against one another. Bill Russell has more rings, Kareem has more points, Oscar Robinson has better stats, there is no best player ever.

MJ transcends bball. Bill Russell, Oscar Robinson, Kareem... they are just great players. Jordan took it to a whole different level.

Even my grandma knows who he is and she has no idea about sports. she has no clue of Oscar Robinson. In fact, she doesn't even really know who Jordan is other than he is supposedly a sports guy. But the fact is, she knows his known. Point is, Jordan is a household name. He has done things far greater than win championships. He is simply the best.

+1
Yes he took the sport to the next level. He is a global Icon when it comes to Babsket Ball.
I agree you can't compare two players from different era. However there is only one MJ.

Kareem, Russell, West, Robertson were all legendary players in the game (don't forget Chamberlain too) but man, nobody TOOK OVER the game like Michael. Not even close. Kobe, LBJ, even Magic all have had jordan-esque performances hitting game winning shots... but not as consistently or as as dominantly as MJ ever did.

I was reading an article today that put it best. It was saying when you needed ANYTHING on the court, MJ gave it to you. Need 50pts, he'll give you 55. Need a game winner from the top of the key, how about 4 of um in the playoffs alone. He just did whatever he needed to do and accomplished it anyway he could.

I don't think anyone has ever nor ever will (at least for a long time) display the same kind of killer instinct, poise under pressure and sheer athleticism as MJ did, which makes him the greatest ever in my book.

God I get chills every time I see him play... still.

Barry my second favorite rb but Payton literally could do it all block, run, pass, kick. He could play every position like it was his primary.

As far as russells rings sure he's got alot but let's remember how many teams there were back in the day like 6? I got respect for the old school but let's face it I'd take Jordan over any legend.

Broke?!?!?! As of Aug 2009, Jordan's net worth is 555million. Pretty good considering his wife took him to the cleaners.

Nope..she settled for 168million dollars. The prenup stated that she was entitled to half of his fortune. Public statements said that figure was 1/3rd. I guess she didnt want the headache. This man has never been broke after he set foot on the court. Who would've thought Magic Johnson has more money than Jordan?? He's worth about 800million

He must have mentored Ken "Hawk" Harrelsons cuz they always reminded me of each other... but I guess those kind of biased comments just come out when you absolutely love nothing more than your team and the players on it.

Thats probably why I'm one of the few who can still tolerate his broadcasting
